Job Purpose

The successful candidate will teach Physics at undergraduate level. Furthermore, the successful candidate will provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in learning and teaching, research, Work Integrated Learning, and community engagement.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Masters (NQF level 9) qualification in Physics or equivalent.
  • Additionally, an NQF level 7 or 8 qualification (Advanced Diploma, Bachelors Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, or Bachelor Honours Degree) majoring in Physics
  • At least two years’ relevant working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:

  • Teach Physics subjects to undergraduate students in various programmes of study
  • Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, practicals, tutorials, online content)
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
  • Participate in research and produce DHET-accredited publications at a rate of at least 0.5 publication units per year
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to implement and coordinate of learning and teaching activities in the faculty at the Mowbray and Wellington Campus.

Job Purpose

This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), part of the Staffing South Africa’s Universi- ties Framework (SSAUF) response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff. The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. The new generation of academics programme (nGAP) involves the re- cruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics. Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens. To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following crite- ria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post:
–  show interest in becoming an academic;
–  be 40 years or younger;
–  have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master’s degree;
–  show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme; and

  • A Master’s Degree in Information Technology with focus in any of the following fields: programming, animation, game design, or interactive media with understanding of web development basics like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a pass mark of 70% or greater

Recommendations

  • At least 1 year experience with software tools like Adobe Photoshop, Maya, 3Ds Max, or Blender for animation and 3D modeling, and programming languages like Unity or Unreal Engine.
