Assistant Section Ranger (Re-advertisement)

A Vacancy currently exists for an Assistant Section Ranger in Addo Elephant National Park. The successful candidate will be reporting to the relevant Senior Section Ranger.

Requirements

  • NQF level 6/National Diploma in Nature Conservation/ Nature Science/ Environmental Management (Essential).
  • NQF level 7 in Nature Conservation/ Nature Science/ Environmental Management (Desirable).
  • Grade 2 Environmental Management Inspector (Desirable).
  • 2-4 years in conservation, wildlife management, or related fieldwork; while at least 1 – 2 years must be in a supervision of field ranger teams.
  • Multiple firearm handling qualifications or competencies and experience in all types of firearms that is handgun, self-loading, manually operated and shotgun.
  • Computer Literacy. Please provide proof.
  • Drivers Licence (preferable code 10).
  • No criminal record.  Police Clearance checks will be conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Conservation Policy and Management plan for the park according to agreed operational plans as well as stipulations of relevant legislation.
  • Assists with coordination of law enforcement initiatives, gathering of information and area coverage to ensure territorial integrity.
  • Compliance to SOP; Firearm management, relevant protocols.
  • Assist in combating and controlling fires and execute burning policy as per delegation.
  • Follow legal, ethical and safe procedures for apprehending suspects.
  • Facilitate water provisions.
  • Assist with Game Capture / culling and cropping.
  • Implement the utilisation policy and man- made structures processes and activities.
  • Participate in game counts / census.
  • Assist in managing the impact of degradation on cultural heritage resources, and report accordingly.
  • Assist with the management of an area of a park/section.
  • Assist with the maintenance of resources such as man-made structures, processes, and activities.
  • Coordinate fire management plan in the section both as a tool for conservation purposes and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure the enforcement of good corporate governance and pro-active risk management.
  • Ensure that regulations, conditions, and procedures are adhered to by both staff and visitors.
  • Assist with access control, traffic flow and visitor management functions.
  • Ensure adherence to the safety and security plans for the park.
  • Coordinate the conservation and rehabilitation of indigenous marine and terrestrial biodiversity of the section, including assisting the Section Ranger with planning and implementation of control of alien/extralimital species and monitoring of key functions and processes.
  • Capturing of field data electronically, incl. situational reporting.
  • Facilitate the maintenance of the park infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment (fences, roads, signage).
  • Monitor recording of activities in pocket and occurrence books.
  • Coordinate the management of equipment, vehicles, and firearms.
  • Participate in search-and-rescue operations when required.
  • Oversee overall maintenance of infrastructure – terrain, waterholes, equipment, tools, vehicle, vessels.
  • Compliance with OHS requirements and report accordingly.
  • Maintain a high standard of administration (log sheets, attendance registers, incident reports, pocketbooks, monthly reports, NECER reports, stock control in stores, etc.)
  • Manage the human capital of the section.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration.
  • Support SANParks wellness programmes.
  • Perform standby and weekend duties as per roster.

Please Note

Official accommodation will be provided inside the park. It is an operational requirement for the successful candidate to live inside the park.

The remuneration package includes a Cost to Employer salary, based on the Cost to Employer salary scale of a position with a Paterson C3 job grade, and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service of SANParks.

Appointment will be in accordance with EE plan targets.

Assistant: Veterinary

A vacancy currently exists in Kruger National Park, for an Assistant: Veterinary. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager: Veterinary Services.

Requirements

  • Grade 12.
  • Qualification related to veterinary science, laboratory support services, animal health, wildlife management, or conservation fields will be an added advantage.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in veterinary support services, laboratory, or wildlife operations.
  • 3 years related experience in a similar role will be an added advantage.
  • Basic communication skills.
  • Understanding of wildlife handling, capture support, and field operations.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, biosecurity, and laboratory safety standards.
  • Good teamwork and ability to support multidisciplinary veterinary teams.
  • Attention to detail in handling samples, records, and consumables.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare capture equipment, treatment drugs, and consumables.
  • Assist veterinarians during wildlife immobilisation procedures.
  • Assist veterinarians with loading, transport, and release of animals.
  • Ensure animal welfare and safety during handling.
  • Data capture during wildlife immobilisation procedures.
  • Clean, prepare maintain laboratory glassware, utensils, apparatus, and veterinary equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of veterinary facilities, laboratories, and work areas.
  • Ensure equipment and workplaces comply with laboratory safety and hygiene standards.
  • Conduct stock control of veterinary consumables and supplies.
  • Monitor stock usage levels and report shortages when necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining availability of consumable required for veterinary operations.
  • Apply laboratory and workplace safety procedures during all activities.
  • Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  • Support basic administrative and operational.

Officer: Human Capital Management

A vacancy currently exists for an Officer: Human Capital Management at Mokala National Park. The successful candidate will report to the Park Manager.

Requirements

  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Human Resource Management or equivalent.
  • Degree qualification in HR or Social Science will be an added advantage.
  • 2 – 4 years’ experience in a similar HCM role.
  • 2 years in a clerical role.

Responsibilities

Senior Manager: Conservation Management (Cape Region)

The Organisation requires the services of a suitably qualified, experienced, and dynamic individual for the position of Senior Manager: Conservation Management within the Cape Region. This position will report directly to the Regional General Manager: Cape Region and will be based at the Cape Regional Offices, Mount Pleasant, Cape Town.

Requirements

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Nature Conservation, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, or related field.
  • A postgraduate qualification at NQF Level 8 will be advantageous.
  • 6–8 years’ experience in Conservation Management and/or Protected Areas Management.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ senior management experience within a conservation or environmental management field.
  • Valid Code B Driver’s Licence.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Experience in Fire Management.
  • Appointment as Environmental Management Inspector (EMI) and Peace Officer will be advantageous.
  • Firearm competency certification will be advantageous.
  • Must be physically fit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of conservation management, biodiversity protection, environmental compliance, and protected area governance within the Cape Region.
  • Lead and coordinate integrated conservation operations, including ecosystem management, wildlife management, invasive species control, wilderness protection, and environmental monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, biodiversity, labour, safety, and governance legislation, policies, and standards.
  • Oversee conservation planning, Environmental Management Programmes (EMPs), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and ecological sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage law enforcement support, territorial integrity, conservation risk management, incident coordination, and environmental compliance reporting.
  • Lead, develop, and manage multidisciplinary conservation teams, including workforce planning, performance management, succession planning, and organisational capability development.
  • Provide strategic financial oversight, including budgeting, expenditure control, resource allocation, and compliance with PFMA and Supply Chain Management requirements.
  • Build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships with government institutions, conservation agencies, NGOs, tourism stakeholders, community structures, and strategic partners.
  • Negotiate and oversee co-management and contractual conservation agreements and represent the organisation in relevant conservation and governance forums.
