Security Guard
A vacancy currently exists for Security Guard at Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site. The successful candidate will have to be a highly motivated individual with the necessary practical skills and experience to assist with Security functions & operations in the park and will report to the Ranger Corporal and Section Ranger.
Location
Requirements
- Grade 12 coupled with 2-year experience as a Security Guard.
- Grade E, D, C. Grade B and A will be an added advantage.
- Code C1 drivers’ licence plus PDP will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in English, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, and Sepedi will be an added advantage.
- Sound communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- A healthy person with a high level of general fitness and mental alertness is required in this position.
- Punctual, neat, and responsible.
- Ability to work on his/her own as well as in a team.
Responsibilities
- Law enforcement that will include participating in regular entries and exits to prevent poaching, unauthorised access and movement within the park as well as keeping vehicle register for everyone entering and exiting the park.
- Permits authorised persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits.
- Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensure that authorised removal of property is conducted within appropriate client requirements.
- Assist customers, employees, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
- Call Police, Section Ranger or Corporal Ranger or Working for Fire in case of fire or unauthorised persons or suspicious movements of vehicles.
- Watch for irregular or unusual conditions that that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- Transporting or Posting security guards in the workstations
- Guidance to visiting community groups, students, and learners before entering the park.
- Efficient and effectively ensure area integrity.
- Assist in driving the security vehicle to response in case of break down in and around the park for our Tourists.
- Perform any delegated duties.

Officer: Socio-Economic Transformation

Responsibilities
Implementation of SET programmes, strategy, and policies:
- Implement the Socio- Economic Transformation strategy.
- Manage and support the people and conservation projects.
- Coordinate sustainable resource utilisation initiatives.
- Facilitate programmes related to cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge, keeping these alive and integrating them into SANParks’ operations.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop sustainable partnerships with communities and stakeholders that will be used as
- mechanisms to ensure constructive and intentional interaction in mutually beneficial programs and projects.
- Liaise with community- based interest groups and NGOs.
Corporate Social Investment (CSI) & Wildlife Economy Projects:
- Promote initiatives that enable participation and benefit in business opportunities provided in the park.
- Facilitate the creation and maintenance of community based economic development projects.
- Facilitate the establishment of environmental awareness programmes in neighbouring community schools and with visiting interest groups inside the park.
- Coordinate or support CSI initiatives as well as wildlife economy projects that involve local benefit (skills development, job creation etc.).
- General administration and report writing.
Financial Management:
- Ensure sound budget management.
- Facilitate the procurement of services and goods.
- Ensure adherence to SCM policies and procedures.

Section Ranger
A vacancy currently exists for a Section Ranger at Meerkat National Park. Being key position, the successful candidate would have to be a highly motivated individual with the necessary skills and experience to take immediate responsibility for ongoing environmental management of the Park. The successful candidates will report to the Park Manager and will be required to secure accommodation outside the park.

- NQF level 7 in Conservation Management or Natural Resource Management or related fields.

- 5 Years relevant work experience as a field ranger or in conservation management in a protected area.
- 3 Years must be in supervision of field ranger teams.
- Computer literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Express.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as conflict resolution, project management and liaison skills.

Responsibilities
- Provide input into the development of conservation and development plans for the park.
- Manage the conservation and rehabilitation of indigenous terrestrial biodiversity of the park, including assisting with planning and implementation of control of alien species and monitoring of key functions and processes.
- Manage the impact of degradation on cultural heritage resources and provide input into the Cultural Heritage plan.
- Monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management Plans and ensure compliance.
- Capturing of field data electronically, incl. situational reporting.
- Manage monthly timesheets, vehicle.
- Monitor recording of activities in pocket and occurrence books.
- Manage visitor access, safety and security.
- Supervise the overall maintenance of infrastructure – terrain, waterholes, equipment, tools, vehicle.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the section through effective and continuous patrol system, thus upgrading and recording relevant information.
- Plan and implement Foot/Vehicle Patrols within the boundaries of the park.
- Monitor the status of water sources (dams, rivers, river flows, siltation, boreholes etc.) and influences and impacts.
- Participate in game capture initiatives and population control measures and game counts /census.
- Participates and supports research and monitoring projects.
- Compile up-to-date Safety & Security plans for the park.
- Safeguard the protection of the conservation estate and territorial integrity by enforcing compliance with the relevant conservation legislations.
- Reinforce adherence to regulations, conditions and procedures protect all SANParks’ staff and visitors.
- Ensure adherence to legal, ethical and safety procedures for apprehending suspects.
- Maintains area integrity by continued effective area coverage, implementing well-planned co-ordinated patrols by well-motivated highly trained and suitably equipped field rangers.
- Monitoring of high value target species and guarding known groups of such species. This includes but is not limited to deploying camping and extended clandestine patrols.
- Promote close cooperation with neighbouring communities / private landowners and other role-players as part of constituency building and economic empowerment within the region.
- Ensure adherence to SCM policies and procedures.

- Manage the section in terms of training, discipline, mentoring and coaching.

Responsibilities
