Job Purpose
To perform and lead the electrical engineering design of sub-sections of plants or facilities (nuclear and chemical) and to support the operation and optimisation of Necsa’s plants and R&D projects in accordance with Necsa, SHEQ, regulatory and nuclear licensing requirements on a projects basis. The purpose of the function, EE is to provide a one stop electrical design, procurement, construction, commissioning and testing service to clients interested in establishing new electrical infrastructure or upgrading existing electrical infrastructure on Necsa’s sites (Pelindaba and Vaalputs).

• Provide electrical engineering services on a profitable basis to Necsa and its corporatized entities (NTP and Pelchem).

Chief Researcher- Three-year fixed term contract (North West)

Job profile:

Necsa is embarking on the design phase of the new Multi-Purpose Reactor (MPR) project, which aims to replace the ageing SAFARI-1 research reactor at Necsa over time. In this upcoming phase of the project, significant research and analysis support is required in the use of computational methods and codes as applied to research reactor calculations. The focus in particular is on analysis in the areas of neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, isotope production, fuel & material testing as well as beam-line applications.

In this role, the incumbent is expected to lead and provide computational reactor physics support as required by the Necsa MPR project. The role would include both technical execution and management of such computational projects, overseeing teams and multiple specialists. A particular requirement of the role is to guide and develop team members in preparation for future phases of the project.

The role is situated in the Radiation and Reactor Theory Department at Necsa, and in particular in the Radiation and Reactor Analysis research group. Contribution in this space requires a well-developed knowledge base regarding the appropriate physical models, related computer code systems and internationally accepted standards and good practices in nuclear analyses.

An important aspect of this job is to define proposed solution approaches and translate them into project plans. It is expected that the incumbent keep abreast of and contribute to latest developments in nuclear analyses.
