Duties and Responsibilities
Micro- and Macro-economic awareness: Remain up to date with macro and micro-economic conditions, legislation, competition, market sentiment and the industry in general, to anticipate and plan for circumstances that may influence the development of the functional strategic plan.
Business intelligence and trend analysis: Collate integrated scorecards for work areas, operations and business groups (e.g.: Business Safety Indexes). Create reports. Perform trend analysis and internal audits.
Maintenance, management and improvement of SHE processes and systems: Ensure that processes, systems and frameworks are in place in support of achieving the plant Health, Safety and Environmental objectives.Ensure a master list and central repository is maintained for all legal and operationalised controlled documents (ISO 9001).Manage Achiever database.
Functional and strategic planning: Ensure that a plan exists and is adhered to for SHE and Risk Departmental Activities: SHE inspections, Risk inspections, Safety training, Training and Awareness Campaigns. Ensure legal appointments are in place, updated and current. Compile a schedule for statutory licenses and permits.
Management of SHE and Risk activities, audits and investigations, quality, changes and compliance: Coordinate emergency and evacuation drills. Conduct and facilitate accident and incident investigations. Conduct and facilitate scheduled and unscheduled SHE inspections and audits. Conduct Environmental monitoring: Dust, Noise, Light and Water sampling (when required). Conduct and facilitate Risk assessments of Standard and Situational risk, training of relevant personnel and do amendment to the relevant documentation as required. Conduct and facilitate Fire risk assessments and inspections, yearly servicing of equipment and training of fire team. Conduct SHE training and induction training with contractors, service providers and new employees. Control access through authorising identification for contractors, service providers and new employees. Ensure alcohol testing is conducted on all individuals entering the premises. Ensure annual calibration of alcohol tester. Conduct training and administration of SHE representatives. Manage SHE Compliance Training Matrix (SHE Rep, First Aid, Fire Team) Ensure scheduled SHE meetings are conducted in all relevant departments. Monitor and ensure compliance with respect to Occupational Health and Hygiene regulations. Ensure compliance to the recommendations arising from audits, inspections, investigations and the resultant Non-Conformances by following up with relevant personnel or HODs. Verify closure of NCs. Contractor Management – ensure all contractors comply to PPC contractor SHE requirements.
Environmental: Ensure Environmental compliance. Comply to conditions as per Authorisations. AEL Management. Compliance with Dust Control Regulations and National Environmental Management Act and its regulations. Submission Annual NAEIS Reporting and any other reports required by the Authorities.
PPE management: Coordinate PPE related issues (recommend, inspect, authorise and issue)
Oversee vendors, service providers and contractors: Oversee Security, Cleaning and Waste contractor service delivery, verify and approve invoices for payment.
Departmental Budgeting: Compile departmental budget as input to the budgeting process (Plan 0 and Plan 1)
CAPEX Management: Provide input to CAPEX process in support of the achievement of departmental objectives (budgeted and unbudgeted)
OPEX Management: Authorisation of spending within the constraints of the Authority Matrix. Implement and maintain cost and inventory control systems within the department. Evaluate negative trends and take remedial action. Minimise waste.
Quality Control: Ensure compliance with SANS specifications. Compile weekly product performance reports and update product test certificates. Conduct Internal and External Audits. Apply for new products as and when required including LOA certificates. Conduct daily batch report accuracies and compile monthly reports per site

Duties and Responsibilities
Production control – Ensure Operator Logs are accurately completed by operators and mobile equipment. Compile End of shift report, accurately and comprehensively completed, including: Target / Actual / Variance (including down time and outstanding work orders) as well as proper action planning during the shift. Ensure production data is being used for Visual Management in all areas in the plant.
Production review – Facilitate start of shift production INVOCOM and provide guidance where necessary. Conduct Short Interval Control with operators.
Process Optimisation – Action recommendations from Production Foreman. Conduct preliminary diagnostic during process upsets. Provide input into efficiency and productivity improvement initiatives Liaise with engineering on resolution of mechanical or electrical issues, by raising scheduled and urgent work orders.
Equipment condition monitoring – Ensure ongoing and systematic 1st line equipment surveillance and condition monitoring
Raw Material handling and processing – Issue work instructions to Raw Material reclamation Issue work instruction to Kiln / Mill Operator. Issue work instructions to Dispatch Process Operator.
Stock management – Conduct end of shift assessment of raw material and work-in-progress Assist with variance investigations and stock adjustments as required.
Quality Management – Ensure adherence to material mixing Escalate quality deviations to foreman.
Governance – Comply with departmental Joint Audit Comply with PPC Operating Best Practices.
