Location: Witbank

The incumbent in this role is responsible to act as an intermediary between the Complex and the communities within which it operates by building relationships, researching and engaging various stakeholders to understand community needs; taking the lead in identifying sustainable developmental projects; monitoring and overseeing the implementation of identified projects; evaluating the impact and sustainability of these projects; ensuring that governance processes are in place within area of responsibility including preparing for audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analysing the Group Community Development Strategy and putting together an action plan for the Complex.
  • Engaging with relevant internal stakeholders to obtain the buy in and sign off of the action plan for implementation.
  • Providing input into the budget to ensure the availability of adequate resources to deliver on the strategy and action plan.
  • Engaging with, and reviewing internal stakeholder feedback to determine capability, skills and other resources to deliver on the action plan.
  • Leading by example on how engagements with communities should be carried out and ensuring that internal stakeholders are provided with the necessary skills to meaningfully engage with communities.
  • Ensuring that Company objectives are communicated to the community and their inputs are fed back to Glencore Coal SA strategies and action plans.
  • Dealing with community complaints, ensuring that they are properly recorded and feedback given.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of projects identified and implemented for sustainability.
  • Identifying risks related to area of responsibility that could have an impact on the business and working with the Complex HOD Team to put in place risk mitigation plans to eliminate business discontinuity.
  • Ensuring legislative compliance in area of responsibility and adherence to Company policies, procedures and standards, including preparing for second and third party audits.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Sciences or related fields.

Minimum Experience

  • 3 years’ experience in Community Development, Social Work or Human Resources
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with local communities and non-governmental organisations.
  • Understanding of the SA socio-political climate and dynamics as well as the operation of democratic institutions
