Role summary
The Financial Accountant is responsible for the supervision of the accounting function and providing full
financial support within the Hospital.
Key work output and accountabilities
Prepare the Hospital financial and management statements according to group guidance on
International Financial Reporting Standards by consistently applying Netcare’s accounting, supported
by reasonable estimates.
Produce accurate and timeous financial and management analysis and reporting.
Analyse and report on balance sheet reconciliations, cost and benchmarking implications and results.
Prepare management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
Analyse and report on budget variances.
Compilation and submission of departmental cost centre reports and liaising with line managers on
budget and expenditure monitoring.
Maintenance of general ledger accounts and preparation of accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
Maintenance of the integrity, accuracy and completeness of respective accounting records and
information systems.
Analytical reviews of costs and expenditure to aid EXCO and line management in decision-making.
Display functional knowledge and understanding to support with the submission of statutory
submissions such as VAT201 and IT14SD.
Supervision and management of the Procurement & Purchasing Department.
Maintain fixed assets register, perform physical asset verifications and compile reconciliations.
Coordinate quarterly stock counts, perform spot checks, and adjust accordingly in GL.
Managing of risk and reviewing of internal controls as well as compilation of risk reviews.
Ensure complete familiarisation of Netcare’s financial policies, as revised from time to time.
Supervision of staff in Finance Department.
Supervision of documentation storage and retention.
Skills profile
Education
Essential
(Essential) Relevant 3-year Bcom Degree or Advanced Diploma qualification, with Financial
Accounting 3, at NQF Level 7
(Preferred) A higher degree in Accounting or equivalent NQF 8 qualification
Work experience
Preferred
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Financial Department, at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
Proven Management/ Interpersonal skills.
Initiative and independent decision-making.
Intermediate computer literacy essential: SAP, MS-office

Role summary
The Accountant is responsible for providing support to the Regional Operations Managers, Clinic
Managers, Billing Administrators, Financial Analyst and Financial Manager. It is expected of the accountant to understand the business, flow of processes, and ensure correct accounting entries are processed on time. Assisting with budgeting and internal as well as external audits will be their responsibility and attention to detail and accuracy is essential. Training on systems as well as implementation of accounting standards across the business will form part of the accountant’s duties as well as analysis and review of monthly financials. The accountant is responsible for the timeous completion of all accounting functions by their team as prescribed by their line manager. A strong work ethic and dedication is required. The incumbent needs to be able to work under pressure and be deadline driven.
Key work output and accountabilities
Financial accounting
- Assist with month end processes as required.
- Analyse and report on balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure all capture notes have been completed and are in balance.
Tax
- Prepare VAT recons and ensure alignment between CFT, SAP and the SARS statement of accounts.
- Submit VAT 201’s on e-filing monthly.
- Review the SARS VAT statement of accounts monthly to ensure that all payments have been done
correctly. - Send VAT payments requests to the bank and cash clerk.
- Attend to any ad-hoc Vat and income tax queries.
- Submit VAT verifications to SARS monthly.
- Process any VAT related journals.
- Reconcile all VAT GL accounts.
- Prepare IT14SD on an annual basis.
- Prepare monthly repairs and maintenance schedules.
Financial planning and budgeting
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Review and suggest improvements for the budgeting and planning.
Interim and year-end reporting
- Assist with reporting functions as required by the business.
- Ensure all capture notes have been completed and are in balance.
- Assist the Finance manager with Annual financial statements review.
- Display functional knowledge and understanding to support with the submission of statutory
submissions such as VAT201 and IT14SD.
Ad hoc projects
- Improve financial reporting systems and management systems where required.
- Implement any VAT and income tax changes in the business as advised by the tax department.
- Assist with ad hoc projects.
Skills profile
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (majoring in accounting or taxation) or relevant Tertiary qualification at NQF 7.
- An Honours Degree in Commerce (majoring in accounting or taxation) will be advantageous.
Work experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar field.
- Strong IFRS knowledge and application.
- SAICA or SAIPA articles would be advantageous.
- Advanced literacy in MS Office applications, especially Excel.

The incumbent will be tasked with providing an effective and efficient HR service within the business unit,
