The role:

The role:

DEVELOPMENT OF CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS

  • Project manage the development and implementation of the company’s overall strategic plan. Collaborate with the executive team to define long-term goals, market positioning, and growth strategies aligned with the company’s mission and vision.

Project Controller_Engineering

Job Description

The Role

The purpose of this role is to assume responsibility for program and risk management of the project as well as overall project planning reporting. They will also contribute to the improvement of project management methods and processes within the Construction Business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To manage the project control resources required to deliver a cross functional engineering project.
  • To support the project with progress reporting including schedule updates, forecast to complete, variance identification and opportunities for improvement.
  • Minimise disputes and claims by pro-active communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developing and managing the baseline schedule, monitoring and reporting on project performance, controlling changes to the baseline, managing project risks, and providing guidance and tools for earned value management.
  • Providing advice and consultation on the implementation of good planning procedures and controls. This covers information on earned value management, cost and schedule variance analysis, completion estimations, and critical path analysis. They help the project team make informed decisions and keep control of the project by providing experience in these areas. Support programme integration, governance, formats, plan optimisation, and project controls best practices.
  • Assists program integration initiatives by building governance structures, defining formats and standards, optimizing project planning, and encouraging best practices in project controls. Endeavor to ensure that diverse program components are seamlessly integrated and that defined project controls protocols are followed.
  • Support and advise on the definition of Project Controls and Earned Value Management policies, procedures and the standards required to deliver projects.
  • Support the development of integrated master schedules for specific programmes in Primavera and/or Microsoft Project that reflect all interface milestones and activity durations from multiple contractors’ schedules and feed changes to the integrated master schedule.
  • Monitor and control programme compliance in respect of the various contractual obligations

 Additional responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Project controls function produce weekly / monthly reports in line with the project and company reporting calendar, providing details on progress, actuals, forecast and explanation of variances.

  • Manage governance to ensure robust cost and schedule performance for the agreed Scope of Work across integrated programmes managed across multiple suppliers.

Responsible for the contractual management of water treatment contractors on site (drafting technical scope of work for new contracts; contract amendments; review and approve monthly invoices)

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Direct liaison with relevant government departments (Department of Water & Sanitation; Department of Environmental Affairs etc.)
  • Manage the submission and tracking of required licenses and environmental authorisations
  • Ensure the required compliance audits are conducted as required annually, and that the recommendations from such audits are implemented
  • Ensure documentation required for legal compliance is kept up to date as required (IWWMP; water balance etc.)
  • Ensure the effective implementation of environmental monitoring programmes (water, air, noise etc.)
  • Responsible for the environmental authorisation process required to be undertaken for any life extension projects (currently two such projects are underway)
  • Management of a financial budget for the department
  • Manage environmental stakeholder engagements and Represent Klipspruit Colliery at external and internal environmental forums
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a Mine Closure Plan
  • Oversee environmental staff and ensure safety standards are maintained at all times
  • Staying abreast with new legislation and technologies within the field to assist the mine

Requirements:

  • MSc / BSc / BTech / Honours in Environmental Management or a related field
  • MSc + 3 years or BSc / BTech Honours + 5 years or BSc / BTech + 7 years’ experience in the field of environmental management as applied in the mining environment
  • Experience in Water, Land, Air, Environmental Management systems and Stakeholder Management
  • Knowledge of the relevant South African Environmental legislation including the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • An in-depth knowledge of Environmental Management standards and ISO 14001
  • Understanding of latest international trends and practices within the environmental industry
  • Core environmental competency in water, rehabilitation, air or environmental management systems
  • Experience in setting out a budget and managing expenditures
  • Strong data evaluation and analytical skills
  • Good practical knowledge of MS Office programmes
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

The Role

To play an important role in the development, design review, commissioning and maintenance of mechanical systems and components for wind energy projects. Mechanical engineer to work with cross-functional teams to ensure the proper installation and operation of wind turbines and associated infrastructure, contributing to the advancement of sustainable and renewable energy solutions.

Key responsibilities include

Design and Development:

  • Support in the development and review of project employer requirements and standards.
  • Designs, develops, and supervises the manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of equipment, machines and systems for the renewable generation facility.
  • Ensure mechanical design of projects is reviewed according to the internal quality systems and industry best practice.
  • Keep up to date with state-of-the-art technological developments in the renewable energy sector and update internal systems to align with latest best practice in the industry.
  • Monitoring and providing direction on mechanical technology towards enhancing mechanical efficiency and project design optimization.

Project Planning:

  • Assess mechanical requirements, calculate resource requirements, and create schedules for design, production, and installation to contribute to project planning.
  • Collaborate directly with suppliers and manufacturers to examine designs, procure materials, and ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams that include electrical engineers, environmental experts, and project managers to ensure that mechanical systems are seamlessly integrated into wind energy projects.
  • Writing reports and reviewing outputs of appointed Consulting and Contractor engineers and technologists.
  • Controlling costs on Projects and ensuring milestones are-met.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that all mechanical designs and activities adhere to industry norms, Grid Codes, regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant processes, procedures, policies, guidelines and legislation.
  • Advising senior staff of safety related risks of critical plant equipment and operation regimes.
  • Monitor mechanical issues within Seriti Green owned and operated assets and initiates projects to implement rectify and improve the mechanical issues.
  • Advise senior staff with regards to long-term plant health care of operating plant mechanical equipment.

Operations and Maintenance

  • Develop, review and implement facility and equipment performance models.
  • Support in the development and implementation of warehouse and workshop systems for inventory management.
  • Continuous management and improvement of spares, materials and consumables to ensure operations and maintenance to drive down costs while improving quality.

Education & Experience

  • Mechanical Bachelor’s (BSc) Degree, BTech Mechanical Engineering or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Eng professional registration and Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) is advantageous.
  • WindPRO, WASP, and PVsyst software experience is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a large infrastructure and construction environment as Mechanical Engineer.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience into the behaviour of mechanical plant.
  • Experience and knowledge of life of plant assessment and engineering techniques of Wind Turbine plant.
  • Financial skills and understanding of systems.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Sound technical and commercial understanding of the construction industry.
  • Good understanding of the appropriate South African Legislation and International Standards and Regulations.
  • Desirable to have wind farm project development, delivery, and operation experience.
  • Demonstrated high level of commercial acumen, with a proven ability to navigate complex deal structures.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work for a multitude of internal and external clients with conflicting interests and priorities.
