The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners,
develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It
provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest
technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food
processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its
wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a
broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.


The ARC- Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC– OVR) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Onderstepoort, Pretoria:


SENIOR RESEARCHER – EPV (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
Salary (R586 283 – R879 422 p.a) all-inclusive Remuneration Package


Key Performance Areas:
 Curation of the National Tick Collection,
 National Tick Collection maintenance, and compliance with National Science Collections Facilities standards,
 Research on tick taxonomy and systematics using both classic taxonomy, geometrics and molecular
systematic approaches,
 Tick distribution modelling,
 Tick identification diagnostic services, Leverage competitive research funding as independent researcher,
 Act as line manager for, and be responsible for Personnel Development of subordinates working in the
project,
 Train and transfer knowledge to students, field veterinary officials and farmers,
 Publication of research in appropriate journals and presentation at relevant national and/or international
scientific conferences,
 Participate in Programme and Institute-related administrative and other duties as requested by the line
manager.
Requirements:
 PhD degree with specialization in taxonomy and systematics (or equivalent),
 Three (3) to five (5) years’ research experience in a similar environment,
 NRF rating (advantage),

An ability to execute and participate in multi-disciplinary research projects,
 Evidence of peer-reviewed publications (minimum of 10). These publications have to show evidence of classic
taxonomy, morphometrics, molecular systematics and distribution modelling,
 Evidence of sourcing or obtaining research funds will be an advantage,
 Evidence of student training,
 Excellent language and communication skills (written and verbal),
 Must be able to work independently and reliable.
