MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

To manage a planned maintenance schedule, ad-hoc repairs, and installations of all mechanical facilities associated to buildings and all broadcast facilities, in order to ensure the maximum effectiveness of these systems. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

OPERATIONAL PLAN

  • Manage, organize, plan and control operational activities.
  • Manage and Oversee the management and maintenance of building mechanical equipment and facilities.
  •  Develop short- and long-term maintenance plans
  • Set up and control Maintenance schedules in a manner that will benchmark to SABC best practices.
  • Ensure maximum plant availability and reliability by leading and directing the maintenance team, ensuring that at all times adherence to safety legislation, relevant SANS codes and SABC standards
  •  Drive effective execution of routine, preventative and reliability maintenance schedules
  • Develop daily, weekly, monthly and 12 months maintenance plans and execution for SABC Auckland Park
  • Provide support on project scoping, execution and commissioning by ensuring that key maintenance resources are part of each stage of the project.
  •  Work with Technology to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations and adherence to the life cycle assets management throughout the entire life cycle of new assets
  •  Oversee minor Opex projects.
  •  Undertake detailed analysis of the plant/assets to develop strategies and recommendation that will improve the reliability and performance of the plant, systems and maintenance effectiveness
  •  Routinely produce root-cause analysis reports
  • Provide input into the Risk Management Plan thatwill anticipate reliability related and non-reliability risks that could adversely impact on the SABC operations
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure accurate and sound administration in the
  • preparation and control of costs with no wasteful
  • expenditure.

GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

  • Maintain effective health and safety environment,
  • including completion of risk assessments and
  • Toolbox talks
  • Monitor and enforce safety legal requirements on
  • all machinery 

CONTRACT MANAGEMENT

  • Initiate and prepare relevant contracts
  • Maintaining the agreed and signed Service Level Agreements
  • Contract Performance management

ADMINISTRATION

  • Facilitate payment processes for service providers on SAP
  • Prepare Technical reports
  • Implement effective workflow processes
  • Manage purchasing for new equipment and repairs.
  • Prepare Business cases

LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Work closely with the team to resolve any issues that arise out of work process and to ensure that solutions meet business requirements.
  • Effective contracting and evaluation of Performance Management.
  • Effective management of Employment Relations issues within the Business Unit.
  • Manage the workload of the team.
  • Effective briefing and communication with departmental staff.
  • Personnel Development Plans (PDP) for all staff members.
  • Provide direction on the attraction and retention of staff.
  • Ensure the relevant Job profiles are prepared and are available for the Business Unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • National Diploma S4/T4/N6 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification. · Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification (NQF 7/8) is an advantage

EXPERIENCE

  • 8 years’ experience in a maintenance and building environment with 5 years in a supervisory position.
  •  Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, including HVAC systems, chillers plants, Air Handling Units, water reticulation, pumps, compressors, valves, actuators, dampers, sensors (ultrasonic, float type, pressure & temperature), instrumentation, BMS and controls
  •  Basic knowledge of electrical equipment and standby generator systems will be advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and tools associated with failure detection (vibration analysis, thermography, X-rays, inspections)
  •  Maintenance Management Systems – ideally SAP
  • Knowledge of employee and industrial relations processes
  •  Ability to develop and manage good working relationship- with internal departments (Broadcasting, SCM, Finance, projects) and contractors and suppliers.
  •  Ability to interact with effectively with people of different cultures.
  • Communication skills, including the writing of technical reports
