Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to create visual communication material and publications for the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) and its subsidiaries that are creative, innovative, visually appealing and aligned to the SARB brand and its corporate identity (CI).

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Collaborate with internal clients in defining design requirements and ensure the delivery of fit-for-purpose design elements. 
  • Conceptualise, visualise and create high-quality, creative designs in collaboration with internal and external clients, in line with the SARB brand and CI guidelines.
  • Provide insights on key elements such as photographs, images, infographics, graphs and so forth for publications, communications and brand materials, conference collateral, animation, presentations, infographics and video.
  • Plan and organise work in accordance with schedules agreed to with the Visual Communications Manager and provide regular feedback on progress to clients.
  • Communicate with all clients to provide feedback, insights and guidance on design elements aligned to the SARB brand. 
  • Collaborate with and provide expert advice to clients on all matters related to layout and design, software and processes.
  • Prioritise work according to scheduled publications and urgency.
  • Adhere to turnaround times in accordance with the Visual Communication’s Procedures and Standards document and agreed timelines from clients.
  • Remain abreast of and apply leading practices to design and layout of visual communications materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • a minimum of a National Diploma (NQF 6) in Graphic Design or an equivalent qualification; and
  • at least three to five years’ experience in graphic design or animation.

  • continued learning and/or professional development;
  • business continuity planning;
  • communications project management;
  • communications legislation and governance, risk and compliance;
  • communications reporting; and
  • stakeholder management;
  • experience in working with the Adobe Design Suite – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, After Effects; and
  • excellent written and verbal communications skills.

The primary object of the South African Reserve Bank is to protect the value of the currency in the interest of balanced and sustainable economic growth in the Republic.

The SARB is responsible for regulating cross-border transactions, preventing the abuse of the financial system and supporting the regulation of financial institutions.

Payments and Settlements

The SARB is responsible for ensuring the safety and soundness of the national payment system, which is the backbone of South Africa’s modern financial system.

Statistics

The SARB provides important economic and financial statistics that present an overview of the economic situation in South Africa.

Research conducted by the SARB focuses on economics, financial stability, banking and emerging trends in finance. Our research supports policy decision-making.
