Job Purpose
Support Academic lecturing staff on the correct pedagogical use of Technology for Teaching and Learning within the Learner Management System (LMS) and emerging technologies. The position is suitable for a person skilled in facilitating learning interactions, co-designing and implementing innovative teaching pedagogies with academics in a multi-disciplinary manner. Minimum requirements:
- A Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional design, Computer -integrated Education or other relevant disciplines.
- At least 3 years’ Higher Education working experience in teaching, design, development and coordination of online and/or blended learning programmes in a complex higher education institution.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Design & development of electronic lecture material. Apply computer application software skills such as Audio and Video capturing and rendering applications for lecture capturing and Web Page programming tools in the design of electronic teaching material for online/blended teaching and learning.
- Identify pedagogical needs of lectures for online learning. Identify the course specific pedagogical needs of any lecturer of CPUT and to assist them with the design and development of e-learning online courses, including the correct way of presenting material and the correct way to assess student learning according to latest Learning Design principles.
- Apply Outcome Based Education Principles. Identify the correct pedagogical outcomes required for the course and design the course layout in such a way that students may be able to pace themselves within their own ability and the constraints of the calendar and timetable to reach the required outcomes.
- Train lecturers in the use of electronic learner management systems and Emerging Technologies. Assist lecturers to develop their own skills in the use of a LMS and Emerging Technologies, including the design and development of their own course material and the design of relevant assessment to measure student competence and success.
- Online support to lecturers and students. Communicate with empathy with students and staff and to assist with any problems they may experience in the effective utilisation of technology for the use of teaching and learning, with specific reference to the use of the institutional LMS and Emerging Technologies.
- Research in the use of Educational Technologies. Research and publish on the use of educational technologies (research-based practice).
- Administration and Supervision. Apply sound Quality Management principles and procedures and supervise instructional Designers in the correct pedagogy to use in a Higher Education environment. Support Instructional Designers on Learning Design.
- Coaching and Mentoring. Support Academics and Instructional Designers in the optimum use of Educational technologies, designing and development of blended learning courses.
- Do any other duties which maybe assigned by management.

Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Director: Cape Town Hotel School, the incumbent will:
- Manage the Food & Beverage Unit of the Cape Town Hotel School (CTHS) through effective supervision of students and staff whilst ensuring that Food and Beverage equipment is utilized and maintained appropriately.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
1. Management of restaurant operations:
• In consultation with the restaurant staff draw up plans for the restaurant operations for approval by the Director.
• Align strategic objectives of the Hotel school with restaurant training and operations.
• Manage the implementation of operational plans and ensure that they are achieved.
• Ensure that the restaurant operations meet the commercial and training need of the Hotel School through maintaining of consistent high standards of food and beverage service, food preparation, food safety, health and hygiene
2. Promoting and marketing of restaurant business:
• Take responsibility for restaurant marketing plan and implementation thereof.
• Work with the functions/reservations co-ordinator to draw-up plans for the restaurant promotions and approval by CTHS Director.
• Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends, competitor analysis, and client preferences
3. Budget and cost control
• Collate information to serve as input in drawing up the budget for the restaurant.
• Draw up the budget for the restaurant operations for presentation to the CTHS Director.
• Manage the budget according to set principles of the budget control in conjunction with the Director.

4. Training of students
• Provide instructions to the students and to guide and support, observe and evaluate students’ performance in the training restaurant
• Train students the necessary technical and operational tasks in the training restaurant
• Liaise with academics to ensure synergy between restaurant simulation and theory classes

5. Administration and supervision of staff
• Supervise the acquisition of stock and ensure that appropriate controls of stock are put in place and maintained
• Ensure that staff members are trained in checking of deliveries and manning of stores in order to make sure that supply of food stuff for restaurant operations is not interrupted.
• Liaise with the suppliers in order to source good quality food supply from the market.
• Keep contact with the industry professionals in order to keep abreast with the developments in restaurant operations and to facilitate placement of students for in-house experiential learning.

Job Purpose

• To report and, where possible, take all necessary action, statutory and otherwise, in the event of accident, fire, theft, lost property, damage, unfit food or other irregularities and complete the necessary return and/or report.
3. Staff Supervision
• Supervise Chefs and kitchen staff on assigned shifts
• Monitoring staff attendance and performance.
• Co- ordinating the staff and student activities by delegating their tasks and monitoring that it is done correctly.
• Duty rostering students and staff in the kitchen
• Evaluating staff in conjunction with the Executive chef on the prescribed evaluation form.
4. Inventory control
• Order the appropriate quantity and quality of food required and ensure proper stock control in order to achieve the required targets.
• Monitor stock levels relevant to or influencing kitchen operations.
• Ensure proper stock rotation, meaning that all old stock is utilized prior to use of new stock and that no stock ever goes out of date on the shelves.
• Establish par stock levels to eliminate overages / shortages of any kind.
• Conduct monthly stock takes and prepare variance reports
5. Training of students
• Implement a diverse set of instructional methods to motivate students and promote a positive and productive learning environment.
• Provide guidance and/or mentorship to students in the production of food. • Conduct assessments of students’ portfolios, behaviour, and performance to facilitate student training in the kitchen.

• Give feedback to Gastronomy lecturers on student performance in the kitchen

Job Purpose
- The Faculty of Business & Management Sciences seeks to appoint a Faculty Language Coordinator for a period of three (3) years on a portfolio basis in which the incumbent will retain 50% of their current academic workload and take additional responsibilities for the Faculty Language coordinator role.
- The purpose of this role is to facilitate, manage and ensure the implementation of the institutional Language Policy in the faculty as well as to promote multilingualism in the faculty to advance academic success in teaching, learning and assessment.
- The incumbent will be required to initiate, co-ordinate and execute appropriate language development interventions and strategies in the faculty.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• A relevant Doctoral degree
• At least four (4) years’ teaching experience in language subjects or language education at tertiary level
• Experience in management and administration in the faculty
• A proven track record of assistance in language interventions in tertiary level programmes
• Proficiency in English and at least one other regional language.
Please note: In exceptional circumstances, applicants with a Master’s degree meeting the other minimum requirements other than a Doctoral degree will be considered under the following conditions:
1. Registration for a relevant Doctoral degree and have made significant progress (i.e. in the final write up stage and/or have submitted their final draft) towards the completion of the qualification.
2. Candidates must provide evidence of a progress report from their supervisor authenticating the progress to date and the expected date of completion.
