Assistant Director: Training and Development

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to support training and development practices in the organisation by identifying development needs, coordinating implementation, evaluating impact and thereby contributing towards the skills profile of SANBI.

This position requires a Degree in Human Resources Development/Management or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Human Resources Development / Management or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years of work experience in Human Resources Development of which three (3) years should be at supervisory level. Experience as a Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) will be beneficial.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: planning and organising, problem solving, leading others, communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal skills; report writing skills, computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Word,  PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook). The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel.

Key performance responsibilities include

  • Support implementation and evaluation of strategic human resource development practices;
  • Develop, implement and review a mechanism for evaluating training and development practices;
  • Ensure governance, effective risk management, and compliance to applicable legislation; and
  • Manage training and development unit support staff to meet current and future challenges.

Assistant Director: Project Management

The South African National Biodiversity Institute is looking for a self-motivated individual to administer, coordinate, manage, and facilitate the Groen Sebenza Project Phase II with regards to compliance, reporting requirements and governance processes related to Medium Term Expenditure Framework funds allocated to SANBI.

This position requires the candidate to be in possession of a degree in Project Management, Business Management, Financial Management or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate degree in Project Management, Business Management, Financial Management or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years’ experience, of which 3 years should be in supervisory position(s).

The successful candidate will have the following competencies: extensive project management knowledge and skills; experience in complex travel logistics for multi-stakeholder meetings; experience in complex minute-taking for business and technical meetings, and report writing; financial management such as budgeting for proposals, report to donors, budgeting and reporting in business context; comprehensive knowledge and experience in human resources, procurement and financial management processes; knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, processes, and practices, systems, and frameworks related to project management including contract management; proven ability to work with a diverse team and under pressure whilst being quality, cost, and safety conscious; advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook); and a valid driver’s license with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel are all essential.

  • Attend to project administration, coordination, and management matters;
  • Attend to budget and financial Management matters;
  • Attend to asset management, and unit staff supervision on project facilitation and delivery;
  • Ensure stakeholder liaison and management; and
  • Manage Health and Safety standards.
