Superintendent

Description

PURPOSE

The role of the superintendent is to perform a technical and supervision of a tailings projects, ensuring the setting out of the site, applying relevant designs and plans, resources management, project progress monitoring, as well as liaising with sub-contractors and clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business / Functional Management

  • Ensure operational execution aligns to production outputs .
  • Efficient operations project execution.

Financial, Commercial and Contract Management

  • Manage, control and monitor the cost, materials and equipment, and implement cost-effective measures.                   
  • Effectively manage the contract in line with commercial parameters.
  • Manage all contractual and commercial commitment in line with budget.

Risk Management, Compliance and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) responsibility

  • Implement and monitor company’s ESG mandate and social responsibility and legislative compliance.
  • Stakeholder Management (internal and external)
  • Promote ongoing communication with client representatives including Resident Engineerand other key internal mine stakeholders to foster good relations, through appropriate forums and interfaces.
  • Manage key interfaces with client contractors, operations and local communities.

Operations and Project Management

  • Responsible for operational execution of all work, through teams of employees and subcontractors.
  •  Produce and monitor weekly and monthly programmes for job or sections of the job
  • Compile daily diaries and work schedules.
  • Prepare short-term daily programmes including resources and allowable.

Manage Operating System and Reporting

  • Put appropriate controls in place at point of execution, to inform management, and to take corrective action immediately if there are deviations to plan.
  •  Ensure accuracy and complete data for reporting.

Technical Management

  • Set and adhere to technical standards and work methods.

SHEQ Management.

  • Oversee the implementation of the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality plans and compliance.
  • Execute zero harm mandate.

People Management

  • Lead, and manage project execution teams.
  • Support, guide and coach teams.

Culture and Climate

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement for the duration of the project.
  • Align with client culture requirements as agreed with project management team, to enhance the client relationship.
  •  Drive Division’s employee value proposition and decent work principles.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  •  BTech in Civil Engineering/ or BSc Degree in Civil Engineering.

EXPERIENCE

  •  Minimum two years’ experience working in a tailing’s management environment.
  •  Ideally two years’ production supervision capacity.

SKILLS, QUALITIES AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Solid knowledge of mining, production and tailings industry.
  •  Knowledge of national legislation, standards and bylaws applicable to tailings environment.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

Carry and fulfil responsibilities of a MHSA Section 2.9.2 legal appointment.

Maintain FAMP policies, Standards and procedure requirements.

Preparation and execution of scheduled routine maintenance, in conjunction with production planning.

Champions the implementation of proactive maintenance and the elimination of reactive maintenance by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.

To support operations by providing effective equipment maintenance ensuring equipment reliability and availability.

Parts and inventory management.

Control maintenance costs effectively and prevent as far as possible over expenditure.

COORDINATOR

Issuing of work schedules and job cards.

Lead team to complying with company SHE strategy and zero harm frame-work

Develop, review and agree the weekly maintenance plan with the Maintenance and Process team. Ensures safe execution.

Reduce reaction times to breakdowns (MTTR) and increase mean time between failures (MTBF) through the effective implementation of maintenance best practices, systems and procedures.

Oversee third party contractor maintenance and compliance.

Maintains an organised, clean and safe work area.

Evaluates condition monitoring status.

ADMINISTRATION

Ensures maintenance logs and work order documentation on equipment inspection and repairs are maintained to required standard

Prepares month end performance report for engineer

Generates cost report to site manager/engineer.

Ensures all break downs are appropriately recorded by subordinates.

MANAGING THE TEAM

Select and appoint competent and passionate people.

Supervision, training and development of maintenance subordinates.

Maintain open channel communication with subordinates through daily meetings for two-way feedback.

Monitor performance & maintain discipline.

Serve as a mentor to yearly intake of work integrated learning students.

QUALIFICATIONS

N3 Mechanical/Electrical Engineering subjects

Trade Test MQA/MERSETA preferred
