Lab Analyst – Ash Quality (Johannesburg)

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, Process Engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, SANS 50450, SANS 50197 and SANS 17025
  • 3-5 years’ laboratory experience in the cement industry
  • 2-5 years’ experience dealing with operational quality control
  • 2 years’ experience in ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Code B driver’s license
  • Analytical skills

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Assist Matla and Lethabo laboratories
  • Maintain SANS 50450 conformance, Maintain ISO 9001
  • Coordinate and attend internal and external audits (ISO 9001 & SANS 50450)
  • Resolve customer complaints, audit findings and determine the root cause
  • Facilitate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformance in relation to the product and QMS
  • Ensure that the performance of the QMS is reviewed at planned intervals to ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness. This review means assessing opportunities for improvement and the need for changes to the QMS
  • Analyze data on the effectiveness of the QMS and evaluate where continual improvements of the QMS can be made. This shall include data generated because of monitoring and measurement and from other relevant sources
  • Maintain order and discipline in the laboratory’s
  • Prepare and standardize chemicals solutions
  • Check and monitor expiration date of chemical solutions
  • To ensure that employees work safely and take reasonable measure to protect his/her health, promote safe and healthy working practices
  • Responsible for Ash project
  • Compile and review Analytical methods including SANS EN Methods and Afrimat Methods
  • Technically competent to be a technical signatory (SANS 17025) for relevant test methods
  • Analyze samples as per written Work Instruction. Calculate results from the analysis and interpret the results with respect to specific limits (if applicable)
  • Performs any other reasonable tasks when requested by the Manager
  • Adhere to the group’s health and safety rules
  • Understand and comply to the group’s health and safety standards
  • Ensures the safety of laboratory equipment
  • Participate in all health and safety campaigns

Train Driver Assistant (Lichtenburg)

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Good hand-eye-foot coordination, fine motor control and medical fitness
  • Effective communication skills
  • Shunter’s Certificate, code 10 drivers and locomotive licence will be an advantage
  • Experience in working in remote mining sites and in a cross-cultural working environment
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Checks visually for any defects on the loco
  • Visually inspect railway lines for any defects or damages
  • Couples and de-couples trucks as required by connecting or disconnecting truck couplings and backing pipes
  • Changes points to direct train trucks on the required lines by throwing over the point switches
  • Locks points after shunting is completed and while loading and off-loading takes place
  • Signals the loco driver to move trucks while loading, by making use of a two-way radio, hand signals and operating the robot in the loading tunnel
  • Checks that truck doors are secure by doing a visual inspection that safety pins are secure before and after the shift
  • Assists the loco driver when the train is moving by doing a visual inspection of the trucks to ensure that all are functioning correctly and that doors are closed, and level crossing signals are working properly
  • Checks that the loading tunnel is safe by doing a visual inspection for spillages in the tunnel
  • Starts the loading plant pumps on the two operating panels
  • Checks that trucks are correctly positioned underneath the chutes by doing a visual inspection and signalling the driver to move trucks either forward or backwards
  • Loads each train truck by operating the loading plant from the control panels
  • Checks that trucks are not overloaded by doing a visual inspection for spillage from trucks
  • Ensures that switchgear is correctly positioned and locked before off-loading commences
  • Assists tip personnel with off-loading by checking that doors are correctly opened and closed
  • Checks that doors are securely locked, and safety pins are in place by doing a visual inspection
  • Checks that no obstructions are present by doing a visual inspection
  • Reports defects in the loading tunnel to the supervisor
  • Cleans the locomotive by means of sweeping or mopping floor as well as wiping windows

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Ensure the cost effective and timeous completion of maintenance activities within the department. Assess requirements for Engineering facilities and approve requests. Optimise the department’s core internal processes
  • Ensure critical spares availability and minimise redundant equipment spares inventory by initialising and maintaining suitable mechanisms. Approve equipment and part specification of Capitalised Maintenance
  • Ensure that the activities of the Engineering Department has a minimal impact on Production by maximising machine Availability and Reliability. Provide input into the Engineering departmental structure and conduct resource capacity planning. Provide input and approve strategic procurement decisions
