AMEE Analytics Hub Lead

The Africa Middle East (AME) Analytics Hub lead will transform and accelerate the realisation of value from data across the AME region by leading the Regional Analytics Hub that serves all our Operating Companies (OpCos). Working closely with functional leaders, global and regional stakeholders, the Hub Lead ensures delivery of impactful analytics products and use cases while deploying solid data and technology foundations to develop the Data & Analytics capability across the region. You will also champion the regional Data & Analytics strategy of Higher – Faster – Stronger. 

The role will report to the Director of Global Analytics in Digital and Technology (D&T) and you will lead a team of 20 people, across four chapters: Data Science, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence and Analytics Product Management.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Lead the Hub delivering analytics products and data infrastructure solutions in the AME region, developing the team, enhancing processes, nurturing culture and ways of working, leveraging and reusing standards, guidelines and best practices already existing at the company
  • Develop the Analytics Hub strategy and recommend analytics solutions based on a deep understanding of the business context, opportunities & pain points, industry trends, best practices and emerging products to bring value to the business
  • Define, own and deploy roadmaps for data and analytics services, drive adoption of services / solutions defined in the roadmap; leverage and support existing architectural standard platforms
  • Ensure roadmap fits into the global integrated enterprise roadmaps, drive governance and prioritisation of use cases, and standardization of products and models
  • Lead and drive alignment of data architecture and technology stacks across functions, region and Global
  • Establish strong credibility with business leaders and stakeholders through exceptional delivery of analytics solutions and solving our most critical business problems
  • Communicate and evangelize how data can be applied to enable the company strategy
  • Develop and deliver BI and Advanced Analytics solutions for high impact business opportunities
  • Engage and orchestrate data scientists and analytics professionals across the organization to leverage the power of data and analytics for growth
  • Lead a team responsible for functional design and delivery of key analytics solutions and products
  • Leverage analytics and data science best practices to deliver leading solutions
  • Establish and maintain insights/analytics library of best practices and use cases for reuse and scale it globally/regionally
  • Through extensive experience with market data, partner data, and other third-party data sources, determine how different data sets can be combined with company owned data to answer challenging business questions
  • Effectively balance cost, time, value, resources, and complexity in designing and delivering analytics capabilities
  • Drive process to cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analysis – perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner
  • Work with Regional & Global counterparts and deliver on key product roadmaps and feature sets using agile methods via matrixed teams
  • Manage or participate in cross-functional teams to promote technology strategies, analyse and test products, perform proofs-of-concept, and pilot new technologies and/or methods

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Business, Management, Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, Information technology or a related discipline
  • Strong technical background and experience in developing data strategy, architecture and technology roadmap
  • Experience in working as or with data architects, data modelers, solution designers, data engineers and data service ops team
  • Languages: English is essential, French and Arabic are nice to have
  • 8+ years of working experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data science and related field 
  • 5+ years in the lead role engaging with key business stakeholders and IT teams to deliver large scale analytics solutions and projects
  • Experience in managing and driving outsourced vendors to delivery and operations objectives
  • Experience in managing large scale data warehouse and data lake in both on-prem and cloud with high availability and scalability
  • Strong technical knowledge of data integration
  • Strong knowledge of the commercial and consumer space with experience in dealing with one or more of the following different data sets: market share, point of sale, sales, supply chain, sales execution, customer survey, panel, web analytics, social media, and financial data
  • Able to engage with key business leaders instilling confidence and providing expertise in analytics as well as engage with technical teams to translate needs and ensure solutions are delivered to customer expectations
  • Background in FMCG or an MNC is preferred
  • Proven hands-on data science experience would be great to have.
  • Strong leadership skills, passionate about creating a team. 
  • Must have skills: Team leadership and project management. An understanding of statistics, machine learning, A/B testing and experimentation. Analytics product management experience. Cloud experience (ideally Azure).

The BI Team Leader is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that supports the organization’s data needs. FM Distilleries

Purpose:

The FM – Distilleries are responsible for the financial management of the SA Distilleries of Heineken Beverages which consist of 5 Manufacturing plants and 3 related JV’s. The responsibilities include the optimization of processes, leverage technology, manage risks, foster collaboration, and drive continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence within the DISA environment.  

The FM Distilleries is required to manage all long-term stock models and be able to provide insights to allow proactive decisions to mitigate risks. The FM will be required to support the related joint ventures as a financial business partner which is responsible for the end-to-end financial governance, accounting and reporting there-off.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • The end-to-end financial performance of SA Distilleries – consolidate, analyze and presentation of monthly financial results and be able to translate the impact of relevant changes in the forecasted view.
  • Drive Results – Displays a continuously high level of energy to follow through with tasks under constant time pressure and continual deadlines. Displays persistence in the achievement of organizational objectives, goals, and outputs.
  • Financials and Budgets – specialist knowledge of budgeting, financial projections, and business case development as well as being able to apply all accounting principles involved in financial management.
  • Forecasting – be able to translate the impact of cost/ commodity changes through a rolling forecast reporting to management and identify cost pressures and recommended actions to mitigate on-cost.
  • Effective business reporting – design and implement control systems – develop management information processes, systems, and strategies and be able to utilize information from multiple sources in the decision-making process of the organization and be able to make recommendations.
  • Drive the standardization/innovation/automation of reporting formats, schedules, and Dashboards in the Distillery environment.
  • Continuously evaluate standards at the distilleries to ensure the completeness, accuracy, and validation there-off.

Cost optimization and business improvements

  • Manage the cost optimization program and drive cost saving opportunities across the distilleries.
  • Business Insights – able to grasp the short- and long-term implications of a situation and be able to translate the impact of the output/business benefits – the ability to compile business cases for Board approval if required.
  • Continuously review and report on the realisation of any business benefits to ensure the validity and accuracy of the benefits.

Risk Management

  • Enforce financial, IT controls and Materials Control policies, procedures & SOPs in line with good corporate governance principles & practices, including the monthly review of the distillery sites ICC’s and the identification of mitigating controls and corrective actions.
  • Ensure governance of overall stock management is aligned to corporate policy, evaluate deviations, and ensure corrective actions or mitigating controls are in place [bulk, dry goods, bottled and engineering spares/ consumables]
  • Review relevant sites ICC’s monthly, identify mitigating controls and corrective actions and provide feedback to level 4 and obtain sign off. Where applicable escalate issues to COE
  • Systems and process – identify, evaluate, and mitigate against business risk.
  • Continuously review the internal controls and identify risks and ensure mitigating controls are in place.
  • Participate in cross site audits and stock takes.
  • Facilitate year-end audit of the JVs with the External Auditors.

Asset management

  • Managing the Long-term Stock Models (brandy, whisky and Amarula) to highlight long term stock risks and allow proactive decisions to mitigate risks. [Value of R2 400MM]
  • Responsible for the Excise & Customs Management with relation to the sites including the sign off bond register to confirm the excise movement.
  • Evaluate the stock conversion cycle, investigate root causes and stock write off risks.
  • Responsible for the SA Distilleries and its JV’s capital approval process and the compilation and alignment of the capital 5-year plan to forecasted business requirements.
  • Management of Physical/Fixed Assets which include the completeness, validity, and accuracy of the site’s asset register.
  • Sign off on all physical asset disposals and ensure no assets on the asset register have an impairment risk.
  • Ensure that all Capital requests motivated on ROI is tracked until payback achieved and evaluate against original ROI motivation and explain deviations,
  • Ensure management and safeguarding of assets during installation and insurance risks are addressed.

Stakeholder engagement

Education & Experience:

  • BCom Accounting or equivalent qualification completed.
  • CA(SA)/CIMA or related professional qualification is advantages.
  • 5 Years+ of relevant experience as Financial Manager or equivalent in the financial operational environment, ideally in Supply Chain. FMCG experience advantageous.
  • Solid business acumen with a business improvement mindset
