Minimum Requirements
Qualification
- Bachelor of Laws degree
- Master’s degree in commerce, Business Administration, Management, Law or
related field - Admitted Legal Practitioner
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant senior management experience, leading a
function, interacting with and providing advisory to executive management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Performance Areas/Tasks
Strategic Alignment:
- Proactively direct and oversee the compliance function, ensuring that the organisation remains compliant with all relevant legal prescripts including legislation, regulations and directives.
- Collaborate with the executive management team to provide legal advice to and advance Sasria’s interest.
- Provide strategic advice and counsel to the company in terms of the legal impact of strategic plans and actions – locally or internationally
- Participate in the development of Sasria’soverall strategy.
- Develop and implement legal and compliance framework, strategies, policies, ensuring alignment with the overall organisational strategy.
- Develop the function’s operational plans and monitor implementation thereof
Legal :
- Provide legal services and guidance to the organisation as needed on matters including contracts, short term insurance, labour law and company law among others
- Provide general legal advice pertaining to organisational decisions regarding scope, mandate and shareholder interactions
- In collaboration with the executive management,
- manage various complex legal projects
- Collaborate with external legal counsel and other stakeholders to facilitate and ensure attainment of organisational objectives.
- Analyse new legislation and regulation and advise the company on how it will impact its operations
Compliance:
- Assume overall accountability for the adequate legal and compliance risk management framework
- Ensure that the framework for Legal and compliance risk management is in alignment with the Sasria’s enterprise risk management
- Implement leading practices and processes in the compliance management fraternity
- Conduct compliance risk and vulnerability selfassessments within Sasria’s business units.
- Ensure Sasria delivers on its compliance related reporting obligations
- Provide management reports on compliance operations and progress, on a regular basis, and / or as directed or requested by Line Manager, to keep Management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
- Implement adequate compliance management tools/ technology to effectively and efficiently deliver on functional mandate
Operations:
- Managing Contracts and Service Level Agreements
- Drive the reduction of Corporate Risk by Ensuring all Contractual Relationships are done in compliance with Sasria and legal requirements
- Ensure appointment and management of the panel of attorneys.
- Represent Sasria in regulatory forums (e.g. SAIA legal committee)
Financial:
- Compile and manage functional budget and forecasts
- Manage legal costs and where applicable oversee the taxation of costs
People Management:
- Ensure adequate capacity resourcing for hefunction to successfully execute its mandate.
- Recruitment and development of skilled staff
- Oversee, support, coach and develop performance of direct reports, ensuring agreement of performance targets, measuring performance against agreed goals and dealing with non-performance accordingly.
- Talent management of direct reports, including career developments and paths for all staff and succession planning for key positions.
- Ensure that the working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increasing productivity

Job Advert Summary
The Technical Underwriter will perform technical underwriting tasks and participate in the implementation of underwriting terms and conditions for policy holders and implementation of rules and regulations for our distribution channel.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Higher Certificate in Short-term Insurance
- RE 5
- Advantageous Tertiary qualification (Bcom degree or similar)
Minimum Experience:
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in Short term Insurance – Technical underwriting (commercial and or corporate). Portfolio management advantageous

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Alignment
- Contribute towards the development of the company’s strategic plans.
- Contribute in the development and drive of the divisional strategy.
- Participate in Updating of policy wordings and regulations.
- Conduct market analysis in order to analyse industry needs and contribute towards the enhancement of existing products.
- Implement departmental policies and procedures
Rate development
- Partner with Actuarial function on pricing for new products, analysis of risk, to ensure that products are priced correctly.
- Analyse claims and premiums trends which provide input into underwriting pricing and risk.
Underwriting function
- Review terms and conditions of products annually to ensure they remain relevant and up to date.
- Conducting GAP analyses of our rules and regulations to ensure they remain relevant and up to date.
- Handle queries and provide technical assistance to our brokers and Agents through visits.
- Review rates annually, ensuring competitiveness and viability of the product.
- Conduct research on possible new products and enhancement to existing products.
- Continuously review product information on our website to ensure remains up to date and relevant.
- Monitor and report on the loss ratio movement per class of business.
- Monitor and apply corrective measures on multi claimants.
- Participate in monthly operations reporting on financial and operations.
Training function
- Provide education through various platforms on Sasria products to clients/agents, ensuring basic understanding of Sasria’s role in the market.
- Review and compiling of training material (manuals & presentations).
- Conduct national road shows on Sasria products.
- Continuously review product information to ensure its relevance.
- Dissemination of product information to the market.
Risk Management
- Identifying Risks and Emerging Risks.
- Establish required controls to mitigate operational risks.
Financial
- Contribute in compiling budgetary requirements.
- Control the departmental budget ensuring expenditure remains within the set parameters.
- Perform any reasonable tasks as and when required by the Line Manager.
