CALL TO APPLY FOR THE COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE PART-TIME BURSARY 2025

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is mandated to collect and curate all geoscience data in South Africa, both on- and offshore. It aims to use these data to find meaningful geoscience solutions to respond to real-world challenges. With its Head Office situated in Silverton Pretoria, the CGS takes pride in having and building a winning team of scientists within the various fields of geoscience.

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is hereby inviting all employees who are interested in pursuing their studies to apply for part-time bursary for 2025 academic year.

Preference will be given to employees who intend to pursue postgraduate degrees in geological sciences (Honours, Masters, and Doctorates).

Eligibility:       

  • The Applicant must be a CGS employee.
  • The study programme should end in a full qualification (Certificate, Diploma, or Degree).
  • The programme must be relevant to the CGS Geoscience Technical Programme and/or aligned to the organisational strategy. The bursary is subject to CGS co-supervision, if applicable.
  • The following research fields are strongly encouraged:

Engineering Geology (contributions to site characterisation or analysis methodologies)Analytical Chemistry and other related geoscience disciplines

The bursary covers:

  • Registration and Tuition fees
  • Prescribed Books
  • Field Excursions and analysis
  • Accommodation for compulsory class and assessments, meals and travel costs beyond 100km radius from employee’s office

NB: The bursary is exclusively for part-time learning.

How to apply:

Complete the attached application form which must be approved by the business unit manager. All applications should be forwarded to bursaries@geoscience.org.za with the reference ‘‘BursaryPT-2025’ on subject.

NB: Motivations (Scientists and Technical Officers) must be written on the application form and signed by the business unit manager.

Closing date:

The closing date for all applications is 21st March 2025.

NB: Late submission and failure to submit the required documentation will lead to the disqualification of application.

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is mandated to collect and curate all geoscience data in South Africa, both on and offshore. It aims to use these data to find meaningful geoscience solutions to respond to real-world challenges. With its Head Office situated in Silverton Pretoria, the CGS takes pride in having and building a winning team of scientists within the various fields of geoscience.

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) herewith invites University students to apply for a full-time CGS bursary for the 2025 academic year. The objective of the CGS bursary is to create, enhance and support expertise in the geosciences and related technical fields.

Eligibility:

  • Be a South African
  • Not employed and available for vocational work during studies and work back upon completion of studies, when required.
  • Has enrolled full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2025 academic year.
  • For students currently at an institution of higher learning, must have passed all the modules of the previous year/semester.

The CGS awards full-time bursaries in the following fields of study:

  • An updated CV
  • A copy of your certified identity document (ID)
  • A copy of your latest academic record
  • A copy of your certified matric results
  • Acceptance letter by the University
