The role:

The role is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of plans to manage Seriti’s Engineering Assets, Resources and Infrastructure – availability of machinery and equipment and managing resources and people to achieve planned production targets.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Maintain safe work practices and a safe working environment by ensuring that legal requirements and group working standards and policies related to engineering are implemented and followed on the Operations and Projects
  • Optimise planned maintenance schedules of machinery and equipment ensuring that equipment is effectively maintained
  • Research and implement best practice systems with respect to cost, maintenance, safety and people management
  • Effective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
  • Financial Budgeting & Management
  • Participate in ad hoc projects providing input into drafting of scope for new projects
  • Sound knowledge of non-flameproof and flameproof diesel equipment and associated hydraulic/pneumatic components
  • Manage underground diesel dispensing equipment
  • Management of critical spares and sub-assemblies (stock levels/turnaround time and quality of repairs)
  • Structural integrity maintenance management
  • Managing structural/mechanical/hydraulic drawing libraries

Requirements:

  • N4 Technical certificate and recognised Trade Test in the relevant discipline or National Diploma or Engineering Degree
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an appointed 2.9.2 Engineering Foreman
  • Safety & Risk Management Course
  • Knowledge of Relevant Legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals and Energy Act, Basic Conditions of Employment and Environmental Legislation
  • An in-depth knowledge of technical engineering aspects such as outside equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and South Africa Bureau of Standards (SABS)
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of machinery and equipment used in the Mining industry
  • Aware of best practices and new technologies relating to Engineering Principles and Processes
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office and SAP
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Proven experience in maintaining heavy equipment used in [mining, construction, or industrial applications]

The role:

The role is a developmental role, with the primary purpose being to learn through experiential learning about the Mining Environment field.  The successful candidate will complete a structured development programme within 42 months to be considered to fulfil a substantial position within Seriti.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Present key learnings to the Operational Management Team after each phase is completed and identify a project at the beginning of second year of developmental programme to present at the completion of the programme
  • Attend all formal courses and seminars as prescribed in the development programme and actively participate in all opportunities for development
  • Act in the capacity of other roles in the discipline as and when required and deliver on role outcomes as expected in an acting capacity as well as to suggest and advise on improvements
  • Identify, propose and participate in improvement or value-add projects relevant to the discipline by conducting research and benchmarking against other divisions and industries as well as networking with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify and engage with technical coach and mentor

Requirements: (Internal Applicants)

  • Recognition of prior learning will be given to candidates that have experience in mining production, geology and/or mine planning
  • It will be advantageous for candidates that have:
    • Already started with their Strata Control Certificate in Coal
    • Completed their Strata Control Certificate in Coal

  • Minimum of 4 years appointed as a mining foreman in a production environment
  • Sound knowledge of Safety Systems, Regulations and Standards with high regard for safety and good safety record
  • Good managerial, supervisory, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth knowledge of mining methods, mining, and environmental legislation
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite & SAP
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

The role:

The role is for effective acquisition of geological data for the operation, enabling geological modelling and reporting and identification of any problems related to geological features.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Promote safety through participating in high level SHE reviews, recommending appropriate actions where necessary, keeping abreast of SHE industry best practices and ensuring communication to all stakeholders
  • Manage geological data acquisition to ensure data integrity and enable geological modelling of the coal seams
  • Underground and Opencast qualities and contamination control and reporting

  • Identify and communicate geohazards such as seam rolls, faults, sills and dolerite dykes
  • Reconciliation of coal qualities and geological data

  • Coordinate exploration drilling and associated activities
  • Contractor management and drill rig co-ordination/allocations
  • To provide support to the mine to ensure resource planning, grade control and other activities are conducted according to standards and best practices

Requirements:

  • BSc Hons/BTech in Geology
  • Professional registration as a Natural Scientist with SACNASP
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Geology field, preferably coal mining experience
  • Exploration and production experience in both, opencast and underground mining
  • Knowledge of mine planning and metallurgy
  • Experience with Geological modelling software like, but not limited to: Minex/Geobank, MineScape, MicroStation
  • Knowledge of relevant mining legislation incl. Mine Health & Safety Act, Minerals & Petroleum Resources Development Act
  • Understanding of risk assessment processes
  • High regard to Safety, Regulations and Standards
