Job profile:

To manage waste disposal activities of the national radioactive waste disposal site (Vaalputs) in accordance with the Nuclear Installation License (NIL28), SHEQ-requirements, international norms, standards and best practice and all other applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Key Performance Areas

  • Liaison with other stakeholders (local municipalities, NGO’s, schools, local farmer’s associations, anti-nuclear groups, etc.)
  • Interface with the NNR during quarterly NNR inspections.
  • Address community issues regarding the perceived negative impact of the Vaalputs operations on the environment.
  • Compliance with Necsa’s corporate social investment initiatives.
  • Determine customer requirements through applicable surveys and respond accordingly.
  • Manage the Vaalputs security systems and processes.
  • Ensure staff are trained and developed in accordance with personal development plans.
  • Participate in formal audits and pre-shipment inspections of waste suppliers.
  • Participate in work group activities with waste suppliers.
  • Compile various reports on Vaalputs operations and maintenance activities.
  • Review and approve reports on various topics.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Job Purpose

To lead and provide support to the Necsa research environment, to execute and manage larger scale and complex projects with multiple specialists, support personnel and team members. The main focus will be in the field of chemistry related to Uranium and other related elements. Most of the current work will focus on the development of processes to management nuclear waste by minimizing the volume or recovering the nuclear material.

Key Performance Areas:

 Knowledge Dissemination

  • Capture research work done in written format; as initiator and primary author, and co-author via regular progress reports, annual progress reports, international conference papers and contributions, journal publications, substantial research and contract client reports, etc.
  • Consistently report research results orally at international conferences/meetings.
  • Lead in various national and international bodies as part of contributing to the scientific peer-review process.
  • This could include duties on editorial panels and workshop OR conference organization on national or international level. Maintain consistent record.
  • Initiate publications, through supervision or project leader, in the field of expertise.
  • Represent Necsa at conferences, seminars and workshops; both domestically and internationally.
  • Collaborate with other experts on projects, workshops or international nuclear bodies both locally and internationally.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this job is to independently perform work on research projects in the area of expertise. The role requires a balance between self-development and the development of others, and visible contributions to relevant Necsa business processes and SHEQ requirements are required. The job is focused on chemistry related to fluorine materials and compounds, and most importantly, in areas of vibrational spectroscopy and molecular modelling.

Job Profile:

To develop, implement, maintain and manage the ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management system and requirements of Necsa SHEQ-INS system to ensure compliance to environmental legislative requirements, alignment to ISO14001:2015 certification standards and drive improvements within Fluoro-chemical operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS APPLICATIONS AND COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Establishment, implementation and maintenance of IMS documents (as per ISO 14001:2015)
  • Schedule and conduct internal risk assessments audits and job observations / self assessments of on operational tasks to ensure compliance to license and operational requirements
  • Monitor environmental compliance on to current policies, procedures, registers, legislation and regulation.
  • Continuous monitoring of updates in legislation that might impact procedures, policies, permits and licensing. Communicate to process owners and management
  • Provide training and awareness programs for plant personnel on environmental best
  • practices.
  • Attend Environmental Forum/permit meetings

  • Evaluate test results received from NLS in relation to our permit and licensing conditions and parameters. Report any deviations to Environmental Management

Management of non-conformances and events / incidents by:

  • Coordinating investigation meetings and preparing investigation and close-out reports
  • Register all non-conformances / events, and follow up and close-out of all open non-conformances / events
  • Register all PARs and CARs, and follow up and close out reports

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

  • Coordinate and schedule environmental surveys based on environmental compliance requirement.
