The Johannesburg Social Housing Company SOC Limited (JOSHCO) mandate is to develop and manage
affordable rental housing for the lower market as an integral part of efforts to eradicate the housing backlog of the City of Johannesburg. JOSHCO is a registered Social Housing Institution and is accredited by the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).

We invite suitably qualified and experienced persons to apply for the following vacant position.
Position : Risk Specialist
Employment Status : Short Term Contract (12 months)
Department : Business Planning and strategy

Purpose of the Job: This position is responsible to review, analyse risk management issues by identifying,
measuring, and making decisions on operational or enterprise risks for an organization. The role will requires conducting of risk assessments, reporting and liaising with stakeholders

Responsibilities (but not limited to the following):

  • To build, continuously improve and provide independent oversight and advice on enterprise risk
    management framework.
  • Ensure that the business leaders, who are responsible for their risks, are aware of their obligations;
  • Ensure that risk assessments are being conducted, and
  • Assist the Risk and compliance manager to manage the internal audit process and providing oversight of
    external audit, and of the compliance processes throughout the organisation.
  • Create an integrated risk framework for the entire organization
  • Assess risk throughout the organization
  • Quantify risk limits
  • Develop plans to mitigate risks
  • Advise on directing capital to projects based on risk
  • Assist functional managers in obtaining risk mitigation
  • Monitor the progress of risk mitigation activities
  • Engage regularly with relevant business units, to ensure implementation of the risk mitigation actions.
  • Communicate to key stakeholders regarding the risk profile of the business
  • Assisting the team in activities and maintain the communication channels.
  • Ensure robust service provider due diligence is conducted from a risk perspective.
  • Ensure risk division is providing sufficient support to risk owners to assist them to define and rate their risks
  • Ensure risk assessments on business incidents and errors are being conducted.

Minimum job Requirements, interested applicants must be in possession of:

  • B-Tech / Degree in Internal Auditing/ Risk Management, Accounting/Finance and Economics.
  • Postgraduate Diploma / Certificate in Risk Management will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience practicing in risk management.
  • Must be familiar with PFMA, MFMA insurance and liability as well as compliance standards for the
    industry, including financial, property, operational, or personnel reporting, regulations, and standards.
  • Must possess knowledge of risk analysis, database management, risk metrics.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and compliance regulations.
  • Proficient with risk management.
  • High level of written and oral communication skills.

Skills and competencies- The ideal applicant must possess the following skills and competencies:

  • General Management Skills: Planning, Leadership, Communication, Facilitation, Conflict
    Management, Ethical, General Management Skills, Financial Data Analysis skills, Budgeting and
    Budget skills and Problem- Solving skills.
  • Technical Knowledge and Skills: Social Housing Sector Legislation, Familiar with Built
    Environment, Urban Design or Town Planning, Spatial Planning.
  • Attributes: Emotional Intelligence, Persuasion, Assertiveness, Interpersonal Skills, Attention to
    detail, Adaptability and flexibility, and Situational sensitivity.
