Purpose of Job
Provide Technical support to maintenance foremen, managers and engineers by applying theoretical and technical skills, making suggestions and independently implementing solutions to optimise systems. The successful candidate will provide primary and secondary electrical protection testing on all installed electrical infrastructure at pre-determined maintenance intervals and to offer a commissioning service on all electrical infrastructure projects.

Purpose of Job
Accountable for system and field instrument technical support to Gas Loop plant area by applying theoretical skills and making suggestions and independently implementing solutions to optimize systems with respect to unit operations, modifications, information gathering, data accumulation, basic processing and reporting. Use practical & experimental expertise to initiate & scope innovative and pro-active solutions to add value to maintenance and small projects. Develop and manage long-term strategies for the Gas Loop instrumentation systems. Provide technical support to project teams with respect to information gathering, data accumulation, basic processing, and reporting.
Key Accountabilities
Execute appropriate maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments and control systems. Implement technical solutions based on practical and theoretical knowledge to multi-disciplinary project teams. Participate in upgrading instruments and installing new instrument and control systems for assigned projects. Examine existing instrumentation and control engineering criteria to determine necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments to outdated instruments. Provide technical inputs and recommendations to install, upgrade, or enhance new or existing instruments. Adjust control systems and perform operational tests of items for specified performance characteristics. Utilise accurate Distributed Control System (DCS) techniques to enhance performance. Conduct Failure Trend Analysis (FTA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Propose ways to prevent future failure occurrences and modifications to procedures. Use predictive maintenance processes to identify and mitigate risks and avoid backlogs. Investigate and report incidents within set of guidelines. Carry out immediate corrective actions. Gather, track, and analyse graphs and statistical information. Generate reports and submit them to project teams. Manage administrative and documentation requirements for tasks such as configuration backups, software revisions, downloading configuration changes, graphics development and modification, and implementing software changes of design. Comply with condition monitoring programmes, engineering governance bodies, engineering standard operating procedures, and engineering principles and legislations. Apply evidence-based SHE practices in alignment with set standards for safe operations. Implement Sasol Group’s risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework. Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and other relevant stakeholders to optimise the reliability and availability of instruments and control systems. Continuously improve own skills and knowledge. Complete, implement, and track personal development plan to attain personal performance goals. Provide day-to-day troubleshooting assistance for instrumentation and controls to avoid or minimize production upsets and/or downtime.
