We are looking for journalists who are passionate about breaking news, uncovering exclusive stories, holding power to account and telling compelling stories that matter to South Africans.

About the Role

As a Reporter, you will be responsible for identifying, researching, writing and producing high-quality news content for your assigned publication across digital platforms.

You will cover a broad range of topics including breaking news, politics, crime, courts, business, community affairs, social issues, lifestyle and human-interest stories while contributing to the growth and success of your publication.

Successful candidates will be expected to deliver accurate, engaging and audience-focused journalism in a fast-paced digital newsroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Source, research and write original news stories daily.
• Identify exclusive and breaking news opportunities.
• Conduct interviews with newsmakers, experts and members of the public.
• Produce accurate, balanced and compelling content under tight deadlines.
• Create multimedia content including video, photographs and social media updates.
• Utilise audience analytics and digital tools to maximise story reach and engagement.
• Work collaboratively with editors, photographers, video journalists and social media teams.
• Contribute ideas for investigations, special projects and enterprise reporting.
• Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics and editorial integrity.
• Represent your publication within the communities and audiences it serves.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ newsroom experience preferred.
• Strong writing, interviewing and storytelling skills.
• Excellent news judgement and understanding of current affairs.
• Ability to generate original story ideas and develop source networks.
• Understanding of digital publishing and social media platforms.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Multimedia reporting skills will be advantageous.
• A valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.
