Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To effectively operate a stoping panel and/or development end during a shift by ensuring safe working practices, continuous inspection of panel and/or end conditions, planning to achieve operational targets and monitoring the availability of resources.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and control a production section during a shift
• Record and communicate any deviations from the normal blasting sequence to the shift Boss in the Daily Report
• Complete end shift reports
• Receive and document all explosives received and used in his area of responsibility
• Declare workplace safe before normal mining operations start daily.
Added Responsibilities:
• Miner duties relating to the responsibilities regarding the Care and Maintenance of a mine
• Routine inspections and safe declarations as per the MHSA
• Good housekeeping on the mine
• Relieving duties as a Shiftboss
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications:
• Grade 12 / N3
• Blasting Certificate
• Medical fitness as per organisational requirements
Additional Qualifications:
• Shift Supervisor Certificate will be advantageous
Experience:
• 4 years relevant mining experience

Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To optimise the mining operation and to continuously improve current practices, methods, equipment and processes in order to exceed current production targets and reduce costs to the company and to ensure compliance of provisions of the Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Act and its Regulations. This position is a Minerals Act Regulation (2.14.1) appointment.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:
• Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
PEOPLE:
Manage the Section:
• Ensure enabling climate/culture
• Maintain labour stability by minimising labour turnover (labour in line with budget and achieve BBBEE, HDSA and Female targets)
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies (IDP’s to be linked to performance results and implemented)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, discipline, overtime)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews.
CUSTOMERS:

BUSINESS PROCESSES:
Mining Management:
• Assist in the control, management and direction of the underground working of the mine
Strategic Planning:
• Assist with the compiling of the Mine Strategic Plan (1-5 years)
• Accurately forecast & control mining & scheduling of mining and shutdown work according to the defined mining & engineering requirements.
Tactical Planning:
• Control the Tactical Plan (< 1 year).
Maintenance Management:
• Jointly define annual service level agreements with site maintenance personnel
• Put systems and controls in place that will ensure that the site is maintained (e.g. Scrutinize and Control overtime abuse):
o at specified performance and within prescribed technical & legal requirements,
o that will permit a safe and environmentally acceptable operation, and
o to meet the required production-rated capacity at minimum life cycle costs.
Other:
• Prepare operational plans for mine, monitor costs, report progress
• Lead the mining operations and engineering team and manage all mining personnel and resources
• Oversee the recruitment. Interviews and development of superintendents, supervisors, and operators, providing support and guidance to build an effective workforce
• Contribute to business strategy to improve company’s competitiveness, profitability and growth.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency (Mining) or Mine Managers Certificate of Competency (Mines)
• Minimum of 4 years holder of a Blasting Certificate
• Degree or Diploma in Mining would be advantageous
• Trackless Board and Pillar Mining experience (advantageous)
• At least 6 years’ mining experience, of which 2 years should be managerial experience

Design, review, and co-ordinate the implementation and maintenance of Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems to ensure adherence to legislative and operational requirements to achieve Zero harm and sustain organizational performance.

• Review and develop standards, functional plans, policies, guidelines and practices in line with the overall business strategy, strategic mine plans, as well as relevant legislative requirements.
• Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to facilitate synergy, co-ordination and support for the Ventilation / Occupational hygiene function.
• Coordinate and review functional risks related to the ventilation function to implement processes to minimise organisational risks and possible exposures.
• Conduct technical interpretations of new legislation, guidelines and directives in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure adherence by ECM.
• Technical interpretation recommendation and reporting of Ventilation and Occupational hygiene information to the relevant stakeholders including statutory organisations.
• Implementation and evaluate monitoring programs and data management systems to provide relevant and timeous information to inform and facilitate effective business decision making.
• Continuously review ventilation models based on latest information to timeously identify design or failing systems minimising potential risks.
• Ensure that the new or changes in ventilation / refrigeration models integrate with current ventilation systems within the mining area
KNOWLEDGE:
• Vast experience on Planning and Managing a Ventilation department, Sound knowledge of the MHSA, Hazardous chemicals, Water Quality Management, OSHA, ISO Standards
SKILLS:
• Computer literate, Communication, Budgeting, Management
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum qualifications:
• Advance Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
• Equivalent Degree or Diploma
• Mine Ventilation Society of SA (MVSSA) affiliation
Additional qualifications
• VentSim
• Management Qualification, Occupational Hygiene Qualification.
Experience:
6 years relevant experience, preferably 2 years managerial experience.
