The Legal Practice Council (LPC) invites qualified and recently admitted legal practitioners to
apply for the following vacant position.

Vacancy : Trainee Legal Officer: (6-month contract) x 14
Provincial Office : Gauteng (Pretoria)
Ref No : GP06/2026
CTC Salary Package : R15 000 all-inclusive package per month

Important Note
This position is aimed at recently admitted legal practitioners wishing to gain experience in a
regulatory environment. Appointment will be for a period of six months, with the possibility (at
the discretion of the LPC) to extend the appointment once-off for a further six months.

Minimum Appointment Requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
  • Law Degree (NQF Level 8)
  • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate within the last six (6) months
  • Knowledge of the Legal Practice Act, No. 28 of 2014, Section 109 Regulations, Rules of the
    Legal Practice Council, Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners, Candidate Legal
    Practitioners and Juristic Entities.

Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be placed at one of the core operational departments of the LPC.
The expected duties may include the following:
Assist in assessing and monitoring compliance with the Legal Practice Act, Regulations, Rules
and Code of Conduct, Administer applications, registrations, admissions, practical vocational
training contracts and related statutory processes, Review practitioner and firm records and
identify non-compliance, Maintain regulatory databases and records, Assist with Fidelity Fund
Certificate and related compliance processes, Monitor the smooth running of examination
processes, Assess complaints and allegations of misconduct, Gather, analyse and evaluate
evidence and documentation, Conduct investigations into professional misconduct and
regulatory non-compliance, Prepare investigation reports and recommendations, Conduct
inspections and follow-up investigations where required, Prepare agendas, reports and
submissions for committees, Participate in Investigating Committees, Disciplinary Committees
and other regulatory structures, Assist in formulating charges where applicable, Present findings
and evidence before committees and other regulatory bodies under supervision, Record and
communicate decisions and outcomes, Conduct risk assessments relating to legal practices,
Assist with curatorship administration and court-ordered interventions, Provide guidance to legal
practitioners, candidate legal practitioners and members of the public, Respond to enquiries and
consultations, Prepare reports, memoranda and correspondence, Maintain accurate records and
case files, Facilitate communication with courts, government departments and other
stakeholders.

The Legal Practice Council shall apply the Employment Equity targets prescribed under
the Employment Equity Act, 55 of 1998, and those in force at the time of appointment,
when considering candidates for this position.
