DIRECTOR: EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
(Five-year fixed term performance-based contract)
The University of Limpopo is looking for an experienced and solid professional to head and shape its
Employee Relations function, which is a Directorate of the Human Resources Department. The
position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer and works collaboratively with the Legal
Services unit of the University.
- Purpose of the role
The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and management of sound
employment relations across the University. The role also involves the handling and facilitation of
employee representation, overseeing and guiding disciplinary and grievance procedures and
processes.
- Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following; –
- Lead and manage the development and implementation of the Employee Relations operational
and performance plans in alignment with the Human Resources and the overall University plans - Lead the design, implementation, communication, administration, delivery and evaluation of
Employee Relations programs, policies and procedures. - Oversee and manage the University employee relations, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Initiate and facilitate relevant investigations in pursuance and support of employee relations
solutions. - In collaboration with the University Legal Services represent the University on cases that are
referred to the CCMA and play either a supporting and or direct role in those that are referred to
the Labour Court. - Partner with other HR Directorates to provide human resources management solutions that
meet the university needs. - Collaborate with the legal and risk management operational areas to ensure compliance with
the relevant South African legislation and mitigating legal and other forms of risks. - Oversee and ensure proper records management of cases.
- Facilitate bargaining and negotiations processes between management and organised labour.
- Manage the resources allocated to the Employee Relations Directorate.
- Carry out any other relevant responsibility that may be delegated.
- Requirements
- NQF Level 8 in a relevant qualification, Labour Relations, Employee Relations, Labour
Relations, Labour Law - 10 years relevant experience of which at least five years must have been at senior management
level. - Comprehensive knowledge of South African labour laws, collective bargaining processes and
work environment conflict resolution. - Experience in and knowledge of Higher Education Regulatory environment.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaboration.
- Sound experience in leading and manging interactions with organised labour especially during

The appointment is for a fixed term of five (5) years with possible renewal for a further term of five

Qualifications and Requirements:
- A minimum requirement of B.Ed. in early childhood education or equivalent
- At least 3 years of experience in working with Grade R and Foundation Phase
Learners. - Experience in report writing and administration.
- Code C1 with PDP (professional drivers permit).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be expected to:
- Research, develop, coordinate and manage the early childhood science centre
- Manage and maintain strong relationships with and liaise with the Limpopo
Department of Education head office, district offices, schools and other
institutions and strengthen UL Science Centre’s educational network. - Develop and provide learner and educator resources and materials to be used
to educate and promote understanding of MSTE. - Support educator training & support activities and events in line with
curriculum developments and best practice. - Develop educational content and provide support for exhibits an exhibit linked
educational resources. - Develop programme feedback and evaluation measures for future review and
assessment of the Education Centre’s activities (particularly early childhood). - Manage, train and support Science Centre staff. Provide leadership, foster
personal development, efficiency, professionalism in staff. - Assist in setting performance targets.
- Regular report writing to the Manager.
- Collation of information for PR campaigns.
- Presentation of science shows and workshops to schools and general public.
- Management of science resources and exhibitory.
- Assist with research activities in the Science Education Centre.

SENIOR PROGRAMME COORDINATOR: PGDip SCIENCE COMMUNICATION
(THREE YEAR CONTRACT)
Qualification and Requirements:
- A minimum of a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with relevant Science
Communication training. - At least three (3) years of tertiary experience in undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching will be an added advantage. - Excellent interpersonal character and communication skills.
- Proven record of administrative involvement in an academic environment.
- Proven experience in science communication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be expected to:
- Manage the delivery of academic offerings of the PGDip in the School.
- Manage Human Resources requirements of modules participating in the
PGDip. - Analyse and report on the performance of PGDip modules.
- Submission of mandatory PGDip reports to the Director.
- Organise development workshops for PGDip academic staff members
- Manage financial resources allocated to PGDip programme.
- Participate in teaching courses/modules according to the needs of the school.
- Coordinating the PGDip programme’s curriculum design team and
stakeholders. - Manage the admission and registration of PGDip students into the
programme. - Manage and ensure that assessment practices are of acceptable quality and
are properly administered. - Encourage the pursuit of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning.
- Promote collaboration with other academic Departments or units.
- Develop a culture of evaluation and benchmarking and striving for continuous
improvement in the delivery of the PGDip programme. - Represent the interests and needs of the PGDip programme within the
University through active engagement with the School Board and relevant
School committees. - Coordinate the marketing of the PGDip programme.
- Assess and submit to the Director, budgets and planning programme’s
infrastructure needs including relevant equipment and monitoring expenditure
patterns against allocations / budget - Manage and maintain allocated PGDip space and infrastructure resources.
