Description
PURPOSE
Determine standards, policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance. Directing the maintenance of plant, buildings and equipment, scheduling and planning production activities. Appointed in terms of the MHSA and take responsibility for managing and controlling all engineering activities on the mineral processing plant. This includes ensuring legal compliance, improving equipment reliability, and maintaining the overall mechanical and electrical integrity of the plant.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimal Plant and Equipment Performance
• Co-ordinate the inspection lists and delegate daily duties to the Engineering Foreman.
• Fulfil duties as per MHSA Section 2.13.3.1 and applicable regulations.
• Maintain legal engineering records, logbooks, appointments, and inspection schedules.
• Conduct audits and inspections to identify non-compliance and implement corrective action.
• Participate in incident investigations and report writing.
Plant Administration Function
• Ensure data integrity on the engineering systems
• Asset lifecycle tracking, planned maintenance scheduling, and breakdown reporting.
• Generation and use of MTTR, MTBF, and other reliability metrics
Ensure Compliance to SHEQ policies, procedures, standards and applicable legislation
• Comply with all SHEQ standards.
• Ensure that all staff is trained and informed of and adhere to safety, health,
environment and quality standards and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all PPE requirements.
• Constantly inspect the work done to ensure that jobs are completed in line with client requirements.
Engineering HR Function
• Drive a Fraser Alexander (to be culture)
• Lead, manage and drive team performance
• Chair all relevant disciplinary and grievance actions.
• Ensure skills training and development of employees.
• Motivate employees and create pride with regards to their work.
• Conduct performance management of subordinates and sub-contractors.
• Ensure career development of subordinates to their full potential.
• Control staff and quality of work at all times.
Total Quality of the Maintenance Function
• Liaise with plant foreman and on a daily basis.
• Liaise on a daily basis with the Process Manager to discuss breakdowns, availability, budget and authorization
• Conduct daily and weekly meetings with staff to discuss and review maintenance procedures, planned maintenance, repairs and review costs against the budget.
• Attend to any client complaints
• Follow up on breakdowns
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma, BSc/B-Tech Engineering Electrical or Mechanical
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) in Mining
EXPERIENCE
• 4 years in a Section Engineer position, carrying a legal appointment in a Plant or Mine Environment
