We are hiring: Project Accountant

Job description: Qualified accountant for projects accounting, management and reporting
The incumbent must possess a relevant accounting qualification and will report to a senior manager or executive. The role is responsible for a range of defined accounting and financial management functions, including:
- Preparing and maintaining project accounts.
- Assisting with financial planning and budgeting processes.
- Monitoring budgets and reporting on budget variances.
- Performing cost control and analyzing program-related expenditure.
- Preparing financial reports for funders and other stakeholders.
- Managing accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
- Performing bank and general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Supporting internal and external audit processes.
- Ensuring compliance with financial policies, procurement procedures, and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- A relevant NQF Level 7 qualification in Accounting, Cost Accounting, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in project accounting or a general accounting environment.
- Proficiency in Sage 300 (Accpac) or a similar ERP system, together with advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Workspace (Sheets) skills.
- A sound understanding of the non-profit sector, including VAT and tax legislation, Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) compliance, and the financial management of grants, donations, procurement, and donor-funded programmes.
- Experience or knowledge of the education sector will be advantageous but is not a minimum requirement.
- Applicants must be South African citizens with a valid South African ID or be in possession of a valid South African work permit.

Responsibilities:
The incumbent will work within the finance unit and be responsible for a number of projects/programme accounts, directly liaising with senior project managers. The successful applicant will be responsible for all accounting duties within the projects and responsible for all accounting functions such as:
1. Daily transactional processing, cash flow management: The preparation of accounts day-to-day invoicing on deliverables completed, processing and payments of all project expenses and logistical expenditures. Monitor cash flow on projects, timely billing/invoicing and collections of overdue accounts and timely payments of expenses to suppliers.
2. Financial planning/budgeting and budget variances analysis: Monthly, quarterly and annually – working closely with project managers – financial planning and budgeting (including forecasting), capturing of budgets into Sage and reporting of budget variances, cost control and cost analysis for programmes.
3. Project financial management, monitoring and reporting: To prepare, monitor and manage the project accounts(reports) for a number of clients and will be responsible for the time management of these outputs and to report on their performance when required to the CFO and to Project Managers/project teams during set project meetings.
4. Procurement: To participate in project related procurement (tenders, evaluation committees, vetting, etc.) – a component of financial management that is a bigger part of the monthly responsibilities.
5. System improvement: Responsible for the design and modification of accounting systems as required to improve efficiency and turnaround time to project managers requests
6. Audits: The incumbent will also be part of all the financial audits done by the company.
7. Adhoc: Any Ad Hoc responsibilities.
The incumbent requires the following skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Office Suite, internet-based applications, and email.
- Advanced working knowledge of Sage 300 (Accpac) or a similar accounting/ERP system.
- Sound bookkeeping and accounting principles with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and build effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
The successful candidate will work with the accountant, programme managers, the administrative unit, coordinators, and the CFO’s office. The person will report directly to the CFO as part of the unit.
The total cost to company (CTC/all inclusive) package is between R350 000 and up to R500 000.

We are hiring: WCED Systemic Testing Grade 9 Markers
JET Education Services is seeking to appoint markers on a short-term contract basis to mark scripts for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) Grades 3, 6, and 9 Systemic Testing.
Recruitment will begin with Grade 9, for which the following number of markers will be appointed
- English Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) – up to 40 positions
- Afrikaans Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) – up to 70 positions
- Mathematics – up to 60 positions
Minimum Requirements for appointment as a Marker
- Have a tertiary qualification and experience in the subject. Grade 9 markers must have a minimum pass in the subject at second-year university level or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a marker on the WCED Systemic Testing project, or any other equivalent marking experience, will be an advantage.
- Not currently employed by the WCED.
- Be fully available for the duration of the marking period, including over weekends when necessary.
- Be in possession of a valid SARS tax number and a South African identity document.
- Be a person of integrity who will maintain the confidentiality and security of testing.
A Marker will be assigned to a subject commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Marking will commence on Monday, 12 October 2026 and is to be concluded no later than Friday, 20 November 2026. This period may be extended or shortened at the sole discretion of JET Education Services.
Duties
- Prior to the commencement of marking, Markers must attend a compulsory Training Session.
- The time and date of this session will be communicated to the Marker well in advance of the start date of marking.
- The Marker is expected to become fully conversant with all aspects of the Marking Instruction Manual issued during the Marker Training Session.
- All Markers are required to be present at the Marking Centre from 07h00 to 17h00 every day of the week upon which marking is to take place for the duration of the marking process. If deemed necessary, the Marker may be required to work on one or more Saturdays during the marking process. The Marker will be assigned to a Senior Marker for the duration of the marking.
- Each Marker will be assigned to a Senior Marker and is expected to follow all reasonable instructions given by the Senior Marker, the Chief Marker and Marking Centre management.
- The Marker will be expected to take due care to ensure that the test scripts are marked thoroughly and accurately as per the marking memorandum and the guidance provided by the Senior and Chief Marker.
