Qualifications and experience required:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Natural Science or Environmental Management.
- A valid Code EB driver’s licence.
- Computer literacy.
- Registration as Peace Officer.
- Five years’ relevant experience and three years at a supervisory level.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Ability to plan, formulate and implement policies or programmes.
- Excellent report-writing and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in English and at least one other official local language (essential).
- Must be physically fit.
The physical attributes associated with this post necessitate that the incumbent is physically fit and able-bodied to perform the relevant functions, and as such, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit themselves to the Municipal Medical Doctor to be medically examined as part of the selection process.
Job purpose:
Coordinating, controlling and facilitating the key performance areas and outcomes of the Environmental Education and Awareness Division associated with the promotion of an understanding and awareness of the natural environment and ethics of sustainable conservation in an urban/peri-urban environment through interactive processes which entails education, extension and awareness through the processes which involves the formulation of strategic planning and policy development, the provision of education and awareness programs, capital development project, implementation of environmental legislation and bylaws, and the performance of general management functions and administrative/personnel management functions associated with the functionality.

FIRE SAFETY OFFICER

Qualification and experience required:
- A tertiary qualification or equivalent – National Higher Certificate in Fire Technology.
- Up to three years relevant experience in a professional fire service.
- Code 14 driver’s licence with PrDP (Professional Driving Permit).
- Registration as a Peace Officer.
Key attributes and competencies:
- The incumbent will be required to conduct investigations to establish and determine the causes of fire and presenting evidence to support findings on suspected criminal acts at the courts of law.
- Fire safety compliance and enforcement, fire safety inspections and prevention, rescue operations.
- First aid & emergency medical assistance, emergency response and firefighting.
- Hazard identification, investigation & evidence collection, regulatory compliance monitoring.
- Fire Safety legislation & code enforcement, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance, advisory & stakeholder engagement.
As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.
Special conditions attached to the post:
The incumbent will be required to be on stand-by.

STATION COMMANDER (TWO POSITIONS)

Qualifications and experience required:
- Must have come through the firefighter ranks and achieved up to platoon commander qualification plus a relevant tertiary qualification, preferably a Diploma in Fire Technology.
- Computer literacy: MS Office applications.
- Seven years operational experience, of which three years must be at supervisory level (platoon commander).
Key attributes and competencies:
- Firefighting and rescue operations (ability to identify fire risks and prevention measures).
- Knowledge of special operations (Hazmat, urban search and rescue) and ability to manage operations in a multi-agency incident.
- Safety, welfare, emergency medical care.
- Community and customer focus.
- Team orientated, coaching and mentoring.
- The incumbent must possess problem-solving skills to deal with high levels of complexity and clarity issues in order to identify, solve and monitor unique issues or problems that have total organisational impact in consultation with the stakeholders.
- The incumbent will be required to perform supervisory/managerial functions for a specific station/section.
Special conditions:
Required to work shifts that fall outside of working hours, exceeding 40 hours per week including Saturdays and Sundays.
Will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination as part of the selection process.
Job purpose:
Co-ordinating and controlling the activities of personnel assigned to a particular shift for rendering of emergency and humanitarian services to the community for the saving/protection of life and property.
