AUDIT INSPECTORS

Position: AUDIT INSPECTORS
Job Grade: D3 and D4
Department: INSPECTIONS

  1. JOB PURPOSE
    This position, which reports to the Team Leader in the Inspections Department, requires wide
    knowledge of and experience in external audit, performing robust inspections of audit firms’ quality
    management systems and financial statement audits in line with the applicable auditing and financial
    reporting standards.
  1. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Participating in the team planning and scoping of risk-based inspections.
  • Inspecting planned financial statement audit engagements and firms’ quality management policies
    and procedures; discussing findings; consulting internally and preparing high quality reports in a
    timely manner.
  • Preparing high quality inspection files with appropriate evidence of inspections in a timely manner.
  • Regular interaction with audit firms, including engagement partners and firm leadership, to discuss
    inspection findings.
  • Demonstrating independence and sound professional judgement in driving inspection matters to
    conclusion.
  • Participating in relevant projects of the IRBA in fulfilling its mandate.
  • Researching and consulting internally on technical auditing and financial reporting matters.
  • Preparing reports and inspection outcomes for presentation to the Inspections Committee
    (INSCOM).
  • Provide inputs on all the files quarterly – during the pre-committee (Pre-Com) meeting in
    preparation for the INSCOM meeting.
  • Ensuring that all INSCOM queries are addressed timeously, including providing context and
    presenting at meetings where required.
  • Assisting Senior Inspectors with the onboarding and training of new inspectors.
  • Contributing to publications, technical articles, and inputs into public inspection reports, where
    required.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with the latest accounting, auditing and technology standards
    and regulations and the practical implementation thereof.
  1. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
    3.1. Qualifications and Previous work experience
  • CA (SA) who trained in public practice (external audit) with at least 6 years post qualification
    experience in external statutory audits.
  • RA registration / Eligibility to register as an RA is advantageous.
  • Private sector / IFRS audit experience essential.
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) qualification with full ISACA membership (CPD up
    to date) is advantageous.
  • At least 6 years post -qualification/articles experience within an external audit firm.
  • Experience in quality control reviews or audit technical support will be advantageous.
  • Minimum at a Senior Manager level or equivalent position in an auditing environment.
  • Excellent technical knowledge and experience in auditing and financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the IRBA’s role in protecting the investing public
    and maintaining audit quality.

OFFICER

Department: STANDARDS

  1. JOB PURPOSE
    This position, which reports to the Director: Standards, requires strong stakeholder engagement,
    communication, innovation and coordination skills. The purpose of the role is to support the Standards
    Department in raising awareness, promoting understanding and enabling the effective implementation
    of auditing and ethics standards through purposeful dialogue, outreach and digitally enabled
    advocacy. The Standards Department supports the IRBA’s standard-setting mandate through the
    Committee for Auditing Standards and the Committee for Auditor Ethics.
  1. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
    Facilitating structured dialogue and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Coordinating and facilitating technical forums, roundtables and consultations with stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining constructive relationships with audit firms, professional bodies,
    regulators, academia and other stakeholders.
  • Ensuring effective communication, documentation and follow-up arising from stakeholder
    engagements.
    Coordinating learning, implementation and capacity-building activities.
  • Coordinating logistics and delivery of webinars, workshops, dialogues and training initiatives.
  • Collaborating with technical experts and the IRBA Digital Content Creator to develop learning
    resources and stakeholder enablement materials.
  • Monitoring participation and stakeholder feedback and recommending improvements.
    Developing strategic communication and stakeholder resources.
  • Drafting stakeholder communications, presentations, reports and engagement materials in plain
    language.
  • Translating complex auditing and ethics content into clear, accessible and engaging formats.
  • Supporting the development of innovative communication resources, including infographics,
    smart forms, explainer videos and webinar toolkits.

Analysis of stakeholder feedback and engagement metrics.

  • Maintaining stakeholder engagement records, attendance registers and feedback information.
  • Coordinating event logistics, stakeholder correspondence and follow-up actions.
  • Supporting outreach and enablement activities in line with governance requirements.
    Digital enablement and innovation initiatives.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of digitally enabled outreach initiatives.
  • Piloting innovative communication tools, formats and stakeholder engagement approaches.
  • Using engagement analytics and post-event feedback to drive continuous improvement.
    Participating in relevant projects and initiatives in support of the Standards Department.
  • Supporting Professional Managers with ad hoc projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Contributing to the achievement of departmental objectives and strategic priorities.
    Collaboration with the IRBA Digital Content Creator and other IRBA functions.
  • Supporting internal collaboration with regards to advertising, production and publication of
    materials and events.
  1. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
    Qualifications and Previous work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism,
    Corporate Communication, or a closely related field, Auditing or Accounting with a
    communication, stakeholder engagement or outreach focus.
  • Three to five years’ relevant experience in a communications, outreach, stakeholder
    engagement or similar role.
  • Experience in coordinating stakeholder events, engagements, training interventions,
    webinars or outreach campaigns.
  • Experience in drafting professional communications, reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholder engagements
    simultaneously.
  • Exposure to professional services, regulatory, standards-setting or public interest
    environments will be advantageous.
  • PRISA accreditation, project management certification and digital communication or content
    creation training will be advantageous.
