• Assisting members of the general public. 

• Undertaking related assignments e.g. Acting in the capacity of surrounding posts.

Special Conditions: 

1. May be required to work overtime. 

2. May be required to work in all weather conditions.

CHILD MINDER (SEASONAL)

Key Responsibility Areas: 

• Report to the Law Enforcement Office or other location as directed on commencement and at the end of the shift to sign on and off duty. 

• Report to and remain at the designated beach to which they are deployed for the day unless directed to provide relief at another beach. 

• Erect the shelter/tent at the beginning of the shift and clean and pack away at the end of the day. 

• Keep a detailed register of the names and times of the children were received, who handed them in and the time and details of the persons who the  children were reunited with. This information is to be provided to the Law Enforcement Officers. 

• Take care of and pacify the children in their custody and provide them with refreshments and blankets if necessary. 

• Inform the Law Enforcement of any medical need, shortages in food, blankets or bedding or any overwhelming anxieties. 

• Cook three meals a day for children at the overnight facility and ensure that they have sufficient bedding and clothing which has to be kept clean and  washed.

• Escort children when they need to use the ablution facilities as required.

Essential Requirements:

Required to work either 8-hour shifts on the beaches or 12 hour shifts at the overnight facility for 24 hour coverage. 

Required to work 6 days a week. 

Wear the uniform provided while on duty. 

Physical Requirements

Healthy and strong enough to carry small children. 

Able to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

• 12 months duties with a voluntary Surf Lifesaving Club and/or have worked one holiday season as a temporary/seasonal Lifeguard. 

• Operation of two-way radios. 

Preferred Requirements: 

• Appropriate level of secondary education. 

• Lifeguard award or equivalent with current annual retest. 

• Valid level 2 first Aid certificate or have obtained one within 6 months of appointment. 

• Valid motor vehicle driving license. •Instructors Rescue Boat (IRB) crewman’s certificate or equivalent. 

• 18 Months relevant experience. 

Special Conditions: 

• Must be able to undergo and pass peremptory entrance fitness test 

• Posts are interchangeable subject to operational requirements. 

• Posts are required to work overtime as and when required and in terms of the Conditions of Service. 

• Lifeguards are required to follow the instructions of the Lifeguard In-Charge. 

• Incumbents must maintain a courteous relationship with the public and be neat and presentable at all times, which includes wearing the uniform provided to maintain an acceptable dress code. 

• Application for leave during school holidays will be considered. 

• Incumbents are expected to work in all weather conditions and must accept risks/hazards inherent in the job. 

• Provide proof of immunization for Hepatitis B prior to engagement. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Peak level of fitness and the ability to undertake and pass the entrance and quarterly skills and fitness tests (as laid down). 

• Adequate hearing and visual acuity. 

• Pass the annual medical checks.

• Valid Advanced First Aid certificate. 

• Valid Pool Lifeguard Award or equivalent with current annual retest.

• 3 Years relevant experience, with 2 of these years in a supervisory position. 

Special Conditions: 

• Required to undertake skills and fitness tests and training.

• Required to wear prescribed uniforms whilst on duty. 

• All Supervisor posts within the department are interchangeable.

• May be required to work irregular hours and/or overtime.

• The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of immunization for Hepatitis B, prior  to engagement.
