To provide support to team and head of CSDP, through the timely and accurate processing of work as received by various Departments, whilst ensuring strict compliance with policies and procedures.

Job description

Functional Operational Support:

  •  Daily funding obligations sent out to Clearing Bank to process within the funding windows.
  • Review various daily reports and resolve any balancing issues.
  • Capturing of all Equity Instructions (On-exchange and Off-exchange).
  •  Send settlement confirmation of all on-exchange and off-exchange trades that settled to internal departments and clients.
  • Calculate monthly Securities Transfer Tax payable to SARS before the 14th day of each month. 
  • Review and analyse market change requests and draft BRS to System vendor
  • Market Testing
  • Prepare and email transaction advice and contract notes to all own name clients.
  • Monitor all status intimations and report on all unmatched trades.
  • Pro-actively monitor swift queue
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports for all on-exchange and off-exchange transactions.
  • Monthly accruals
  • Upload Price feed
  • Sharedealing MTN/SOL/SOLBE1
  • Fill trades MTN/SOL/SOLBE1

Compliance:

  • Ensure all document and administration processes adhered to the necessary regulatory (Strate), and other processes and procedures, in accordance with transactional timelines to prevent risk exposure or monetary penalties.
  • Ensure that all FAIS / FICA / POPI and TCF obligations as they relate to the CSDP, are adhered to.
  • Maintain and improve quality results by adhering to standards and guidelines, recommending improved procedures.
  • Operate within controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the JSE.
  • Identify and report risks or areas of concern to management within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure

Customer Service:

  • Maintain effective working relationships with customers (both internal and external) towards rendering highest quality of services.
  • Identify and solves problems whilst demonstrating a high level of integrity in line with the JSE core values.
  • Extract and send daily / monthly / bi-annual reports to clients
  • Update client list for JSE.
  • Liaise with Institutional / Individual clients, Strate and all other relevant parties / Regulators.
  • Ensure that JIS CSDP provides a high-quality service to all external and internal clients
  • Effectively attend to meeting requirements from all Issuers and external service providers.
  • Keep abreast of market changes and keep clients informed.
  • Liaise with vendors regarding system issues and enhancements

Ad Hoc Support:

  • Provide back-up support services for other areas, as and when required.
  • Assist with new projects as well as various ad hoc projects as required by management

Cost Control:

  • Promote the effective and transparent use of financial and other resources.
  • Monitor expenditure and ensure spending occurs within budgetary limits and the JSE financial guidelines, report deviations to direct Manager.
  • Explore opportunitues to control and reduce costs
Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

  • Matric
  • Relevant Certificate/Diploma ( Finance or equivalent)
  • Strate Module 1-3 Accreditation through SAIFM

Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience operating in an Equity Settlements or Corporate Actions role

Additional Requirements:

  • Code B drivers license or relicable transport
  • Strate Module 1-3 Accreditation through SAIFM

Technical Competencies:

  • Understanding of regulatory environment, laws, acts and rules.
  • Understanding of FICA, STRATE and legal documents.
  • Computer Literacy (Excel advanced).
  • Proficiency in Social Media (Instagram)

Job description

Stakeholder Engagement

·       Build professional, trust‑based relationships with member firms, ensuring interactions reflect the JSE’s values and regulatory expectations.

·       Engage with external regulators such as the FSCA and FIC and participate in relevant meetings where necessary.

·       Provide clear, consistent and transparent communication to members regarding review processes, findings, regulatory expectations, and required remediation.

·       Collaborate with internal stakeholders across the Market Regulation division and other departments to ensure alignment and information sharing.

·       Uphold the JSE’s reputation as a credible, impartial, and respected market regulator through ethical conduct and high‑quality communication.

Member Reviews

·       Conduct on‑site and desktop compliance reviews to assess whether member firms meet the Financial Markets Act, AML/FICA requirements, and applicable market rules.

·       Identify high‑risk areas across equity, derivatives and other relevant markets, ensuring risk‑based review planning and execution.

·       Perform detailed fieldwork, prepare high‑quality working papers, and document evidence in line with regulatory audit and review standards.

·       Maintain accurate, logical and accessible files that support regulatory conclusions and follow‑up actions.

·       Monitor progress against the annual review plan and escalate challenges, risks or emerging concerns timeously.

·       Prepare draft and final reports summarising findings, corrective actions, and recommendations for improved compliance.

·       Support management in preparing the annual review plan by analysing trends, regulatory risks, and member‑specific developments.

·       Ensure all reviews are executed efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with internal methodologies and regulatory expectations.

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualification: Relevant Financial diploma/degree, such as Auditing/Accounting

Minimum Experience: 3 or more years’ experience in an auditing environment of financial services sector with at least one year’s experience in compliance monitoring and compliance techniques

Knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of JSE products and regulatory frameworks
  • Understanding of AML/FIC legislation and money‑laundering principles
  •  Proficiency in basic software applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Internet)

To ensure regulatory compliance of JSE members through managing the processes of authorisation, approvals, onsite reviews, capital adequacy as well as overseeing the JSE role in assisting the FSCA (Financial Services Conduct Authority) in discharging their supervisory obligation in respect of the FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act).

Job description

1. Staffing and Team Development

  • Manage and develop direct reports to ensure they are appropriately skilled.
  • Provide continuous training, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • Set performance objectives and monitor achievement.
  • Ensure performance agreements are completed on time.
  • Provide ongoing direction and performance feedback to the team.

2. Member Firm Reviews

  • Develop and manage the annual review/audit plan.
  • Oversee on-site reviews of member firms’ compliance with the Act and JSE Rules.
  • Identify and assess high-risk areas within equities and derivatives markets.
  • Review member firms’ FICA and AML compliance processes.
  • Manage the reporting process and approve review reports.
  • Ensure findings are communicated and understood by member firms.
  • Oversee follow-up reviews to confirm corrective actions have been implemented.

3. Capital Adequacy Management

  • Manage the Capital Adequacy (CAPAD) process for equities and derivatives members.
  • Ensure member firms maintain sufficient capital relative to risk exposure.
  • Monitor compliance with JSE Rules, directives, and capital requirements.
  • Implement and oversee monitoring methodologies to minimize CAPAD breaches.
  • Ensure capital shortfalls are addressed appropriately and timeously.

4. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain professional relationships with member firms, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Promote the JSE’s reputation as a trusted and respected regulator.
  • Assess stakeholder feedback regarding service quality and professionalism.
  • Ensure all interactions align with JSE values and standards.

5. Membership Applications, Authorisations and Approvals

  • Manage new membership applications in the equities and derivatives markets.
  • Oversee applications for registrations, approvals, extensions, and changes in control.
  • Ensure timely responses to member firms and applicants.
  • Manage interactions with stakeholders and internal departments.
  • Coordinate evaluations and approvals to ensure compliance with JSE Rules and Directives.
  • Ensure continuity of application processing within the team.
Minimum requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant BCom Degree or Higher Diploma in a related field such as:
    • Internal Audit
    • Forensics
    • Accounting
    • Other relevant Financial Services disciplines
  • CA(SA) qualification is advantageous

Experience

  • 4 to 6 years’ Audit experience in a relevant:
    • Audit environment
    • Financial Services environment
    • Stockbroking environment
    • Capital Markets environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a team.

The primary function of the Application Support Specialist is to provide specialised 1st line operational technical support to JSE business-critical applications and technology platforms to ensure that production systems execute accurately, timeously and within agreed service levels.
