Key Purpose of the role
The Learnership is a learning experience that enables the learner to achieve a national qualification that is registered on the National Qualifications Framework and gain workplace experience in the Short-Term Insurance Industry.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Learners are exposed to the Short-Term Insurance business industry.
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 (Essential)
- Maths (Minimum Level 4 – 50%) (Essential)
- English (Minimum Level 4 – 50%) (Essential)
- Maths Literacy (Minimum Level 5 – 60% or higher) (Essential)
- 2nd language (e.g. home language; Minimum Level 4 – 50%) (Essential)
Qualifying criteria for learnerships:
- Applicant must be a South African citizen by birth, between 18 and 25 years old in the year of the learnership (i.e., 2027)
- Applicants must not have a completed tertiary education qualification.
- Applicants must not be studying during the period of the learnership.
- Applicants should not have any formal work experience.
- Unemployed
- Not being engaged in any post Matric studies
- Not have completed any previous Learnerships

About the Central Operations Service Team (COST)
The Central Operations Service Team is a vibrant, diverse, dynamic, and driven team within Health Operations. Its mandate is to be agile, allowing it to quickly assimilate and operationalize new functions and services that require incubation and to curate services that require close links to other specialized teams located in Sandton and Port Elizabeth. It currently comprises of several specialized services including the Executive Office, Social Media Servicing, Health Underwriting, Conservation, Non-Disclosure, and most recently the Informa team which are situated in Sandton. Our ECP team comprises of back-office services which include New Business, Gap and Employee Health Solutions.
Key Purpose of the role
This Learnership leads to a nationally recognised FETC: Long Term Insurance NQF Level 4 qualification; which consists of structured learning components combined with practical/workplace experience in the Financial Services industry.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
Long Term Insurance – Discovery Health:
Call Centre: New business and health products administration
Personal Attributes and Skills

Education and Experience
Grade 12 is essential.

This Learnership leads to a nationally recognised FETC: Long Term Insurance NQF Level 4 qualification; which consists of structured learning components combined with practical/workplace experience in the Financial Services industry. This programme is strictly for individuals living with a disability.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Long Term Insurance – Discovery Health:
Learners will be given exposure to the long-Term Insurance business – client servicing, claims, business Intiatives and compliance.
- Call Centre: Medical Aid client servicing, claims, new business and health benefits administration.
- Successful candidates from the Learnership Program will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:
- Servicing all key stakeholders telephonically and via other servicing channels as required until the query has been resolved
- Servicing our members in a customer centric way to ensure that we live by our service principles
- Keeping up to date with product changes to ensure that all key stakeholders are accurately serviced
- Continuously staying abreast of all digital servicing tools within the business and ensuring that the functionality is fully understood
- Achieving and exceeding key performance metrics relating to service delivery.
