Main purpose of Position:

Assisting and monitoring with rigging and de-rigging cables and equipment, ensuring the efficient and effective setting up and dismantling of the complete infrastructure and its safe return to the SABC base.
Managing specialised skills within the team to leverage alternative revenue streams as and when required

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
Responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all databases allocated. Provide the planning and development of the database, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. Ensure that data remains consistent across the database, data is clearly defined, users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs, there is provision for data security and recovery control (ensuring all data is retrievable in an emergency). Provide an effective and secure database infrastructure for the South African Broadcasting Corporation nationally ensuring availability, safety, security, storage, recoverability, and integrity of databases.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY
- Perform Database design, interactive applications with an objective to meet business strategies.
- Provide technical advice in support of the IT strategy for development and DevOps services.
- Collaborate with the appropriate internal departments and external customers to understand the business needs and / or customer requirements.
- Provides technical problem-solving leadership in complex operational troubleshooting.
- Participate in determining the most effective solution architecture and taxonomies to address identified business requirements and maximize search capability.
- Identify and address any architectural deficiencies.
- Use development languages and tools to write, edit, maintain, and test computer software in line with business goals.
- Strive to obtain Systems and Database availability of 99.98% uptime.
- Administer z/OS Operating Systems, ADABAS Database, Natural ADABAS Suite of software and Entire-X
- Ensure Backup and Recovery processes is in place and adhered too.
- Conduct upgrades as per project plans with minimal disruption to broadcast and business activities.
BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
- Establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security.
- Monitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast responses to front-end users.
- Map out the conceptual design for a planned database.
- Consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.
- Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model.
- Install and configure software and hardware.
- Manage network servers and technology tools.
- Set up accounts and servers.
- Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
- Troubleshoot issues and outages.
GOVERNANCE RISK AND COMPLIANCE
- Contribute to the upkeep of a risk register to address risk issues.
- Drive consistency in deployment and usage, including taxonomies, templates, master pages and security.
- Coordinate responses to procurement RFI\RFPs and client information platform related questionnaires.
- Coordinate responses to Internal and External Audit RFI’s
- Identify, analyse, respond to, and monitor IT risk.
- Address Risk factors and events in a cost-effective manner.
- Manage tracking of identified findings and actions to closure and reporting to leadership.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
- Partner with Legal and Compliance to maintain compliance with applicable laws and change in business by establishing the policies, controls that comprise the program.
- Execute customer experience management processes and Increase customer service index.
- Develop proficiency in communicating with customers and ensure key interactions are recorded.
- Take ownership of technical queries (internal/external) as assigned and ensure resolution before deadline.
- Develop and manage schedules that are aligned to customer SLA’s and proactively manage exceptions.
- Provide monthly SLA reports to IT leaders and business customers.
LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Relevant IT NQF 6 qualification or equivalent
- 5 years’ experience using ADABAS Database within a corporate IT environment.
- 2 years’ experience with ADABAS database design, coding, and documentation.
- Knowledge of database backup procedures, recovery systems, Natural/ADABAS database.
- Knowledge of programming languages and API.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge & understanding of core SABC business
- Working knowledge & understanding of Infrastructure best practice
- Working knowledge, understanding & application of information technology best practice (including platforms, applications, security, etc)

- Initiate and produce Afrikaans Audio / Radio News and Current Affairs content as assigned
- Produce and present Current Affairs programmes, Special Programmes / Broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts
- Identify, initiate, brainstorm, research, plan, record, produce, broadcast, publish and post Current Affairs content and stories that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate, balanced and fair for the target audience
