POST: Social Worker (Warrant Officer)
LOCATION: Provincial Human Resource Management, Employee Health and Wellness,
Northern Cape
LEVEL OF REMUNERATION: BAND B1 R385 740 per annum

Requirements:

  • Be in possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational)
    recorded on the National Learner Record Database (NLRD) on at least NQF level 4.
  • Applicants must be in possession of a four (4) year Degree in Social Work (accredited by
    SAQA on NQF Level 7 or higher).
  • Registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Services
    Professions (SACSSP) and submit proof of paid-up fees and valid registration for
    2026/2027 financial year.
  • Applicants must display competency in post-specific core functions of the advertised post.
  • Be fluent in at least two official languages of which one must be English.
  • Be in possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Be a citizen of the Republic of South Africa of which documentary proof must be furnished
    during interview.
  • Applicants must be willing to work under pressure as well as work extended hours.
  • Applicants must have interpersonal communication (verbal and written).
  • Must have no previous criminal / departmental convictions or criminal / departmental cases
    pending.
  • Must not have any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the
    Service.
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and
    fingerprint verification.

Knowledge, Skills and Competency:

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and policies.
  • Must be prepared to work in a multi-disciplinary team and be able to market Social Work
    Services.
  • Successful candidate must be willing to travel and attend courses when required. Two (2)
    years of social work experience within substance abuse, gender-based violence and
    generic wellness environment will serve as an advantage. Facilitation/presentation skills as
    well as Supervision/Management experience will serve as an added advantage. Must be
    able to work in a diverse group, have good interpersonal communication, monitoring and
    evaluation, report writing, problem solving, conflict resolution and computer skills (MS
    Word, MS Power Point and MS Office Outlook).

Core Functions:

  • Render advanced and complex social work services work-focus assessments.
  • Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
    social work services’ capacity building programmes (promotive- and workplace
    interventions).
  • Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
    restorative interventions.
  • Render comprehensive occupational social work services to the client system by means of
    application of Social Work Community Model.
  • Compile and submit feedback report per social work programme presented.
  • Facilitate and observe health and wellness events.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary Employee Health and Wellness team.
  • Improve the mental well-being of members by providing psycho-social, emotional, personal
    and work-related interventions.

    cases and shall allow their fingerprints to be taken and background enquiries to be made.
  • Short-listed candidates may be subjected to a full security clearance process before or
    during any stage of employment.
  • Short-listed candidates will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security
    screening, fingerprint screening, reference checking and verification of address, where
    necessary.
  • All short-listed candidates, including the SMS, may be expected to undergo a personal
    interview and shall undertake two pre-entry assessments, (a) a practical exercise to
    determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements,
    as well as (b) an integrity assessment (ethical conduct).
  • Short-listed candidates for appointments to certain identified posts will be vetted in terms
    of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No
    32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005). A candidate whose
    particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child
    Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment.
  • Candidates are expected to disclose if he/ she is a respondent in an interim or final
    protection order in terms of the Domestic Violence Act, 1998 (Act no 116 of 1998) or
    Protection from Harassment Act, 2011 (Act No 17 of 2011), and may be disqualified from
    appointment.
  • The Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act, Act 37 of 2013 requires that all
    new appointments in the South African Police Service as from 31 January 2015 provide a
    buccal (inside cheek) sample to determine their forensic DNA profile. The forensic DNA
    profile derived from the sample will be loaded to the Elimination Index of the National
    Forensic DNA Database.
  • Appointments will be made in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No
    68 of 1995).
  • Persons who retired from the Public Service by taking a severance package, early
    retirement or medical retirement, as well as persons with previous convictions, are
    excluded.
  • Applicants who are currently not appointed in terms of the SAPS Act will be expected to
    undergo medical assessment by a medical practitioner, before appointment, and must be
    found to be medically and psychologically fit.
  • Police Act members may be subjected to practical assessment.
  • Applicants must comply with SAPS Dress Order prescripts, whereby they must not have
    any tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any uniform of the Service.
  • Incumbents appointed in terms of the SAPS Act will be expected to undergo Introductory
    Police Development Learning Programme at a SAPS academy determined by National
    Commissioner and will be expected to maintain the required minimum fitness level for
    SAPS Act members throughout his/ her service in SAPS.
