About our Fusion Centre
Our Fusion Centre is a specialist Intelligence unit that investigates financial crime across three major areas: credit-related fraud (including syndicated loan fraud using fraudulent documents), insurance fraud and core banking scams, covering everything from investment fraud and Ponzi schemes to money laundering and deposit scams. We work across both personal and business banking, which means the variety of cases is real and the complexity is constant.
What you’ll do
- Lead end-to-end investigations into complex fraud, from planning objectives and mapping the modus operandi through to evidence gathering, forensic reporting and criminal case initiation
- Identify control gaps and recommend practical preventative measures that stop losses before they grow
- Set investigation standards for the team, review work quality and ensure every case is handled consistently and thoroughly
- Provide executive-level reporting on fraud trends, actions taken and recommended changes to policy and process
- Build and maintain working relationships with law enforcement and industry stakeholders to see cases through to outcome
- Mentor and develop team members, coaching them on methods, frameworks and best practice so the team gets better every day
What we’re looking for
- At least 6 years’ experience as a specialist investigator or forensic auditor
- At least 6 years in banking crime investigation (strongly preferred)
- A relevant degree in Law or Finance
- Solid grounding in investigation methods and the intelligence process
- Familiarity with the South African banking industry
- The ability to absorb unstructured, ambiguous information and translate it into clear, structured findings quickly
- Strong written and verbal communication — you can write a detailed forensic report and share your findings confidently with internal and external stakeholders
- Organised and conscientious — you keep track of a lot, and nothing slips
- Some people management or team leadership experience (advantageous)
- Computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
- A genuine commitment to developing people and raising the standard of the team around you

Forensic Investigator II: Insurance (Cape Town)

We are looking for a Desktop Investigator who is passionate about uncovering the facts, identifying potential fraud, and helping us make fair, informed decisions.
The successful candidate will combine strong investigative thinking with deep insurance knowledge to identify risks and support sound outcomes.
Based on hiring requirements, we are particularly interested in individuals with a strong claims background who have transitioned into investigations, with experience across life and funeral insurance and a solid understanding of insurable interest, with experience across life and funeral insurance, supported by a sound understanding of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF), POPIA and complaints forum processes. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to evaluate the materiality of suspected fraud against the applicable policy terms and determine its relevance to the claim outcome.

What you’ll do
- Conduct detailed desktop investigations into potentially fraudulent or high-risk insurance claims.
- Gather, analyse and evaluate information to determine the validity of claims and identify potential misrepresentation.
- Build clear, evidence-based findings and recommendations that support fair and consistent decision-making.
- Identify trends, risks and control weaknesses that may expose us to fraud or financial loss.
- Work closely with stakeholders across claims, risk and investigations to resolve complex matters.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by recommending preventative measures and strengthening controls.
What we’re looking for
- 3years + Experience in insurance claims, investigations, auditing or fraud-related roles.
- Strong knowledge of life insurance and funeral insurance.
- Good understanding of insurable interest and insurance fraud indicators.
- Experience conducting investigations, analysing evidence and presenting findings.
- Sound knowledge of investigation methodologies and evidence-based decision making.
- Strong analytical, communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to build relationships, influence stakeholders and manage sensitive matters professionally.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Forensics or a related field would be advantageous.
- Previous experience within financial services or insurance would be beneficial.
