DATA ANALYST

The Centre for Child and Adolescent Lung Health (CHILD) at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute
(www.lunginstitute.co.za), requires applications for a DATA ANALYST for the Drakenstein Child Health Study (DCHS).

The incumbent will be based at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and will be responsible for preparing, analyzing and reporting on data related to the primary project outcomes and providing ongoing statistical support to students and investigators.

DCHS is a multi-year birth cohort study following 1,000 mother child pairs to investigate the epidemiology, aetiology and risk factors for childhood lower respiratory illness and the impact on child health, including the development of chronic respiratory disease. The study aims to investigate the role and interaction of potential risk factors covering 7 areas (environmental, infectious, nutritional, genetic, psychosocial, maternal and immunological risk factors) that may impact on child health. The
cohort has been actively followed for 12 years, with an additional focus on the emergence of non-communicable diseases and mental health as the children reach adolescence. With an extensive publication record, strong international collaborations and novel work in areas which include the childhood microbiome, gene expression, and adolescent TB, the study presents exciting
opportunities for analysis and collaboration.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters degree in statistics, epidemiology or public health (with a strong quantitative focus)
  • Previous clinical research and statistical analysis experience (minimum 3 years)
  • Knowledge of STATA
  • Data management experience with electronic platforms such as REDCap

The following will be advantageous:

  • PhD degree in statistics, epidemiology or public health (with a strong quantitative focus)
  • Knowledge and experience in longitudinal data analysis is a distinct advantage
  • Experience working in a collaborative research environment
  • Experience with publications in peer-reviewed journals

SENIOR QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER

The Centre for Lung Infection and Immunity (CLII) (http://www.lunginstitute.co.za), invites applications for a Full-Time SENIOR QUALITY ASSURANCE & QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER* position.

CLII is based within the Division of Pulmonology in the Department of Medicine at UCT and is committed to the pursuit of excellence in research, treatment, training, and prevention of TB in Southern Africa.
CLII conducts various HIV/ TB/COVID-19 related research projects that are conducted at numerous sites in Cape Town and across South Africa.

The main purpose of this position is to ensure processes are conducted in accordance with good clinical practic e guidelines and regulations.
The successful candidate will perform quality control and assurance activities and ensure that all study-related documents and files are audit-ready. This will include but not be limited to the maintenance of site files and monitoring of patient
folders. The successful candidate will also be required to coordinate actions for corrective and preventative measures to ensure quality. They will also be mentoring the team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring responsibilities are fulfilled and tasks are completed as required by the line manager.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Degree in Health Sciences (advantageous) OR Grade 12 / Senior Certificate with
    exceptional work experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a clinical research setting
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial position is preferred
  • Valid GCP Certificate (compulsory)
  • Experience in auditing, monitoring, and maintaining clinical trials according to GCP standards (site files and patient
    folders)
  • Experience in obtaining and adhering to regulatory requirements (SAHPRA, HREC)
  • Experience in data collection and capturing within research is advantageous

DATA MANAGER

The Allergy and Immunology Unit (AIU), based at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute (www.lunginstitute.co.za),
requires applications for a DATA MANAGER* on a Fixed Term Contract.

The Allergy and Immunology Unit was established in 2000 to provide state of the art clinical and laboratory services for the diagnosis and management of allergic and immune-based diseased, with a mission to transform lives of patients through innovate science and compassionate care.

The Data Manager will be responsible for database development and data entry processes during the data life cycle. This includes the quality control of data and query response turnaround time with the support of all other site staff, as well as share the responsible for managing other data capturers.
The main purpose of this position is to ensure that all essential study- and participant-related source documents are accurately captured so as to collectively permit evaluation of the conduct of studies and the quality of the data produced.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Tertiary Qualification at minimum Bachelors Level (in Medical, Scientific, Biological, Statistical, Computer Science or
    related field)
  • Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
  • At least 4 – 6 years data management experience working in a clinical research setting
  • Experience with electronic data systems (Proficiency in MS Excel and /or MS Access, SQL, REDCap and/or EDGE and
    other electronic Data Management Systems)

DATA MANAGER

Introduction

Data Manager, based at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Cape Town for appointment as soon as possible. The
successful candidate will manage data for the African Brain Child (ABC) initiative at the University of Cape Town (UCT), involving
data collection, harmonization, merging datasets, and ensuring data quality. The successful candidate will work under the
supervision of Professor Anthony Figaji, Head of Paediatric Neurosurgery at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
This position offers the opportunity to support groundbreaking research in paediatric neurosurgery, with a focus on brain
infections, in collaboration with local and international partners.

Requirements:

FINANCE AND OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Finance and Operations Manager is responsible for managing the financial, operational, administrative processes and systems within the Academic Development Programme (ADP) at the University of Cape Town.

This role is crucial in providing strategic support and advice to the ADP leadership to ensure ADP’s financial sustainability and achieving ADP’s mandate and vision while mitigating financial risk.

ADP’s size and the de-centralised nature of most of its units, entails managing processes and operating systems across a complex network that encompasses ADP’s central and faculty-based units. This involves a strong coordinating and oversight role of administrative staff in central ADP and the ADP units. The role also entails engaging with other departments in CHED, faculty managers and other administrative staff in faculties. Requirements:
