Payroll Officer
Duties & Responsibilities
This position calls for an energetic and dynamic person to assist in administering all payroll functions, while ensuring a high degree of confidentiality as well as accuracy, integrity and compliance. The successful candidate will be a member of the Finance Branch and will report to the Financial Manager.
The Payroll Officer will be responsible to provide efficient and effective day to day financial and payroll administrative support to ensure an effective, accurate, timely and compliant payroll function, financial management and control. The Payroll Officer will further assist in the processing of complete and accurate creditors and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to ensure implementation of efficient and effective internal controls and procedures, including the preparation of monthly reconciliations, monthly reports and ensuring compliance with accounting and finance standards, best practices and government regulations.
Desired Experience & Qualification
The ideal candidate must be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in accounting/financial management or equivalent NQF level qualification, whilst Honours degree will be an added advantage. A qualification in payroll or a certificate of competence with a payroll system is required. A minimum experience of three (3) years in payroll administration is required, working in payroll systems such as Sage300/ VIP payroll. Two (2) years’ experience working with SARS e-filing and SARS Easyfile is essential.
The candidate must be efficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and must have a solid knowledge of advanced accounting and financial principles and practices. Furthermore, a sound knowledge of Public Sector financial management experience such as Public Finance Management Act, Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act and Treasury Regulations will be advantageous.
