Reports To: High School Operations and Blended Learning Manager

Purpose of Role:

Security guards ensure that the school grounds and facilities are kept safe and secure during operational hours.

Security guards are integral to the SPARK Schools “culture” and our commitment to providing a world class learning environment for our scholars.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Close the school grounds daily manually (lock and key) and rearm the alarm.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all students, staff, and visitors on campus by patrolling the grounds and monitoring the gate.
  • Assist all visitors who arrive at the school by welcoming them, receiving their personal details, providing a guest pass, and directing them to the relevant staff members.
  • Assist visitors as they leave the school by helping them to return their guest pass and sign out.
  • Assist with dismissal procedures daily to ensure the safety of students.
  • Adhere to the safety and security procedures of SPARK.
  • Report safety and security issues to school leadership, including the arrival of suspicious persons, the delivery of suspicious packages, the loitering of people in close proximity to school grounds, or any suspicious behaviour by members of staff or visitors.
  • Assist with ad hoc operational tasks, such as moving furniture, working with maintenance and gardening suppliers, collaborating with facilities maintenance staff, or setting up for events.
  • Communicate and collaborate professionally with school staff as required.
  • Participate actively in staff development opportunities as a member of the SPARK Schools team.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner at all SPARK Schools events and to all stakeholders.

Qualifications and Criteria:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

  • English language fluency.
  • Clear/Clean Criminal record
  • Grade 12 certificate.
  • Grade level B or C security certificate.
  • PSiRA registration.
  • Previous security experience.

SPARK Schools EMS and Tourism Educators are content specialists in the Tourism and Business Studies Dept. SPARK high school SP/FET Phase educators equip scholars with the knowledge and tools required for matriculation and work collaboratively in leading an integrated inquiry-based curriculum. SP and FET Phase EMS and Tourism/Business Studies Educators are integral to the SPARK Schools’ culture and our commitment to rigorous, engaging learning experiences for our scholars.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Plan for, teach and co-teach face to face and distance lessons for and deliver academic and clubs lessons.
  • Collaborate with grade level and content area partners to develop rigorous, engaging learning experiences and to create and implement high quality Individualised behaviour and learning plans for scholars.
  • Participate actively in all scheduled professional development sessions. 
  • Develop and administer formative and termly assessments to track student progress and analyse the data for student growth for all scholars to meet the required proficiency ratings.
  • Submit and analyse scholar data in order to track progress and intervene when necessary.  
  • Lead scholar social and emotional development through CQ (Character Quotient) sessions and reflections.
  • Plan for, deliver and monitor programmes to support low performing scholars, or extend high performing scholars. 
  • Participate in place-based education where required within mandated national curriculum or as part of SPARK Schools curriculum enrichment.
  • Participate in career and tertiary pathways education where required as part of scholar culture and character development.

SPARK Schools Grade 12 Life Orientation Educator/Transition Coach FET Phase Educators are content specialists in Life Orientation. They ensure that scholars are set up for future success by assisting them with their university applications, workplace readiness, and character development at school.

Requirements

Responsibilities:


Life Orientation Educator

    • Prepare students for the workplace through resume building, interview skills workshops, and career exploration activities.
    • Facilitate connections with industry professionals and alumni for mentorship and networking opportunities.
  • Student Support and Well-being:
    • Serve as a trusted mentor and advisor for students, providing guidance on academic, social, and emotional challenges.
    • Conduct individual and group check-ins to monitor student progress and address any concerns.
    • Organizing college/career fairs and guest speaker events.
    • Coordinating with external organizations and programs that support student transitions.
    • Contributing to the school’s overall strategic planning for student success.
    • Collaborate with school counselors and other support staff to ensure comprehensive student well-being.
  • Discipline and Behavior Management:
  • Uphold and enforce school policies and expectations for student behavior.
  • Address disciplinary issues in a fair and consistent manner, focusing on restorative practices and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to create a positive and safe school culture.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement workshops and programs on topics such as time management, study skills, financial literacy, and personal development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in college/career readiness and student support.

Qualifications and Criteria:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

  • English language fluency
  • Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree in Psychology/Life Orientation – Senior/FET
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching High School Scholars in Grd 11 and Grd 12 preferred
