Shaft Surveyor

  1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • The Shaft Surveyor is responsible for managing the specialist survey and services and expertise at a shaft. In terms of the MSHA it is a 17.2 appointment.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Achieving legal compliance (survey)
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Regulations of the Minerals Acts as applicable to Mine Surveying
  • Compiling survey and evaluation plans
  • Compiling survey and evaluation plans
  • Compiling, designing and reports and plans appropriate to the surveying function
  • Ensuring availability of electronic production survey plans
  • Implementing effective controls & procedures
  • Issuing survey instructions and notifications (Survey and Holing Notes)
  • Maintaining DMR plans
  • Maintaining MPRDA survey legal compliance
  • Maintaining MPRDA survey legal compliance
  • Maintaining survey plans
  • Managing the activities of the survey and evaluation teams
  • Monthly reporting according to standard
  • Planning monthly survey and evaluation requirement and priorities
  • Preparing mine plans (survey)
  • Supervising legal compliance to procedures and standards
  • Supervising the measurement of underground production performance
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12
  • Mine Surveyors Certificate of Competency
  • National Diploma Mineral Surveying or B-tech Minerals Resource Management
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine surveying
  • Additional experience in mine evaluation, must obtain MS (SAIMM or MSSA) membership (or equivalent) after appointment
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Competent as 17.2 appointment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Computer literate for necessary systems
  • Check survey experience

Rock Engineering Technician

  1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • The Rock Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting the section rock mechanics, strata control officer and other staffs with strata control issues on in his respective operational area.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • To undertake daily underground visits to monitor compliance to standards and procedures and to identify areas with possible Strata Control problems and report to the Strata Control Officer. This includes follow-ups on high-risk areas.
  • Input relevant data into plans and layouts.
  • Guide supervision in FOG related standards for rock related safety and performance
  • Audit FOG related mining support standards to ensure compliance
  • Do rock mass ratings during underground visits to build up a database
  • Gives coaching to operational underground personnel in basic Strata Control support issues
  • Liase and coach Shift Supervisors and Miners on Mining standards
  • Assist with testing of new support products
  • Maintaining of the seismic network system
  • Logging of bore-hole data in zones where it is deemed necessary
  • Installation of Underground monitoring instrumentation (FOG lights, FOG sticks closure robots and loggers, strain cells, etc)
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12 with Maths & Science
  • Degree desirable (Mining, Geology, Engineering Geology).
  • Strata Control Certificate advantageous
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 2 years underground experience (stopping & development).
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate in English (read, write, speak)
  • Lower level: employee relations
  • Lower level: safety and health
    -Computer skills Microsoft Word, Excel

  • The Shaft Timberman is responsible to provide engineering maintenance, repairs and construction services to the shaft and station area.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Allocating resources and equipment according to priorities
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance
  • Blasting hanging boxes
  • Blasting in decline area
  • Communicating operational problems
  • Communicating resource requirements
  • Compiling accurate shift and work order reports
  • Completing job cards and descriptions of work and spares used
  • Effective administration of systems (shaft)
  • Effective maintenance of the shaft to standard and legal compliance
  • Effective shaft maintenance through the ability to performing shaft maintenance
  • Ensuring accuracy of technical data
  • Ensuring the effectiveness of pipe and equipment installations
  • Inspecting shaft and installations for defects
  • Performing shaft maintenance
  • Raising stock requisitions for materials required
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12
  • Onsetter Certificate
  • Blasting Certificate
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the mining / shaft environment
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Valid driving licence code 08

Electrician (UG)

  • This role has a 2.9.2 appointment in terms of the MHSA, Act of 1996: Maintain, install and commission the electrical components of the machinery and equipment to an agreed standard in the area of responsibility.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Applying appropriate tools to complete tasks
  • Attend to breakdowns and emergencies as required
  • Completing job cards and description of work and spares used (PM’s)
  • Conducts and participate in risk assessments
  • Ensure that material, spares and equipment are available as required
  • Exercise judgment with regards to replacement of components
  • Maintains a high quality of work
  • Performing work to the required standards and specifications
  • Records results of all legal examinations in the appropriate format
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12
  • Electrician Trade Certificate
  • Medium Voltage Certificate
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the mining environment
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • English literate (speak, read, and write)
  • Must be able to do standby and overtime
  • Must be familiar with risk assessments procedures
  • Valid driving license code 08
  • Basic computer skills
