The PowerX² – Services SETA 20 000 Internships
Experience Multiplied. Impact Magnified.
Programme Purpose
The PowerX² is a national Services SETA initiative designed to place 20 000 university and TVET
college graduates into 24-month structured internships across approved workplaces in South
Africa.
The programme responds to the persistent gap between education and workplace exposure by
creating a coordinated, scalable pathway that strengthens graduate employability and supports
employer capability. The initiative aligns with NSDP 2030, the National Skills Development Strategy
and the Services SETA mandate to expand access to meaningful workplace learning opportunities.
All qualification fields will be considered. Matching will be based on employer needs, workplace
capacity and sectoral relevance.
Participation Categories
A. Employers
Employers across South Africa including private companies, public entities, municipalities,
government departments and non-governmental organisations that can provide structured
workplace opportunities are invited to participate. Eligible hosts include:
- Private companies
- Public entities and government departments
- Municipalities
- Non-profit organisations
- Universities and TVET colleges (as host sites)
Employer requirements
Employers must: - Be COIDA-registered
- Demonstrate OHS-compliant workplace readiness
- Commit to hosting interns for 24 months
- Provide workplace site details for matching
- Complete the Employer Expression of Interest Form
- Participate in PMU-driven monitoring and reporting
All qualification fields will be matched according to employer needs.
Graduates
Graduates are invited to apply if they meet the following criteria:
- Completed an NQF Level 4–7 qualification at a public university or TVET college
- Unemployed at the time of application
- Available to participate in a 24-month internship
- Willing to be matched to workplaces based on demand and opportunity availability
- Submit the Graduate Expression of Interest Form
All qualification fields will be matched according to employer need.
Note:
Being previously funded or not funded by the Services SETA does not affect eligibility.
Required Documents
After completing the Expression of Interest form, applicants receive a secure upload link. No
documents are uploaded at the initial stage.
A. Required Documents – Employers
- CIPC registration document
- SARS Tax Compliance Status PIN
- CSD summary report
- COIDA registration / Letter of Good Standing
- OHS compliance evidence
- List of workplace sites
- Physical address of each hosting site
- ID of authorised representative
All employer sites will undergo a formal Workplace Approval Process before any interns are placed.
Required Documents – Graduates
- Certified ID copy
- Certified qualification or statement of results
- Updated CV
- Proof of residence
- Bank confirmation letter
Submission Process
- Select the relevant Expression of Interest category (Employer or Graduate).
- Complete the online EOI form.
- Receive automatic confirmation with:
o A reference number
o A secure upload link
o A list of required documents
o A reminder of the closing date - Upload documents before the closing date.
- Await further communication from the PMU.
