Job Description:

As a Section Manager Reward and Payroll (Sishen & Kolomela)your responsibilities will include:

  • Function as a role model and reinforce a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.
  • Provide an environment for on-site discipline to challenge and act on unsafe behaviours without repercussions.
    • Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports and the capability and potential of the broader teams of safety specialists and line management.
    • Conduct physical safety checks, interventions, and coaching.
    • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessment and close-out of Safety Actions.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Payroll, Time & Attendance:
    • Ensure that payroll administration processes are designed and implemented at the operation to establish high-quality service delivery.
    • Ensure collaboration for payroll and remuneration activities with the Kumba Corporate Office and GSS teams.
    • Monitor and audit bonus payments, annual adjustments, reward allocations, appointments, and promotions of employees to eliminate discrepancies and anomalies.
    • Ensure payroll and time-related interfaces are functional and purpose-driven.
    • Oversee audit readiness and compliance for payroll, time and related reward processes, ensuring robust controls and risk mitigation.
    • Ensure accurate and efficient management of time and attendance processes across the organisation, supporting payroll integrity, compliance with labour legislation, and operational efficiency.
    • Engage and support various internal & external stakeholders to improve communication, knowledge, and collaboration around payroll and time management processes and procedures.
    • Maintain proper filing and documentation of payroll and time-related records to support compliance, audits, and easy retrieval.
  • People and Organisation Systems:
    • Manage and optimise P&O systems for time and payroll, including vendor management to ensure functionality, service quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Strategy, Policy, and Governance:
    • Contribute towards the reward and benefits strategy for Kumba in conjunction with the Kumba Corporate Office Reward team.
    • Contribute to developing and implementing reward policies and procedures across the Northern Cape region to ensure alignment with strategy and business objectives.
    • Function as process owner for specified reward activities to ensure principles and guidelines are created and followed by all Operating Units.
    • Render support on the review of housing policies and related payroll activities/actions.
  • Remuneration Processes and Annual Review Cycles:
    • Ensure the completion of the annual reward cycle, including recommendations for annual increases or changes to reward packages at both a policy (annual budget increase) and individual level (new appointments, promotions, etc.).
    • Ensure tax legislation compliance and adherence to remuneration governance principles.
    • Support the share scheme portfolio, STI administration and annual award and vesting cycle.
    • Contribute to the design, application and implementation of practical reward tools and processes to aid business managers in the consistent and fair reward of their employees at Operating Units.
  • Benefits within Kumba:
    • Support the allocation of shares and bonuses within applicable legislation and governance framework for both bargaining and non-bargaining categories of employees.
  • Reward Capability within Kumba:
    • Develop reward capability across the Northern Cape Region through identifying needs, training, and sharing information supporting reward policies and processes.
    • Provide advice and guidance to all stakeholders (including Operating Units) on specific pay and benefits issues, supporting the implementation of frameworks and policies to ensure compliance with guidelines and processes.
  • Job Evaluation and Role Library Management:
    • Ensure that all managers understand the AAPlc Global Banding Framework.
    • Conduct job evaluations as part of the Kumba Job Evaluation Committee and ensure consistency across Operating Units and with AAPlc.
  • Reward and Benefit team:
    • Improve people and organisation in a way that the section as a whole delivers maximum output.
    • Conduct effective bi-annual performance and development discussions.
    • Ensure superior performance is recognised, and underperformance in the team is addressed.
    • Provide thought leadership to ensure sustainable, engaged, and motivated employees.
  • Budget Management:
    • Manage the section’s expenditure within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
    • Identify cost savings and optimisation opportunities.
  • Authorities:
    • Managerial authority: Manage the Reward and Benefits Team
    • Advisory authority: Advice to Exco or Peers
    • Auditing authority: Auditing authorities have control over the reward structure..

This role is in the People & Organisation (P&O) Band 6 (D4/D5) and reports to the Manager People & Organisation

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Human Resource Management (NQF7) (Prescribed)
  • Post-graduate Degree in Human Resource Management (NQF8) (Preferred)
  • SA Drivers License

  • An advanced knowledge base in Payroll, Time and Rewards gained through 6-8 years of relevant experience in a corporate setting.

Job Description:

The purpose of this role is to communicate Anglo American’s global strategy, financial, operational and sustainability priorities and performance through and to the media via a proactive, relationship-driven approach in South Africa to positively influence Anglo American’s reputation in South Africa.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a detailed knowledge and understanding of Anglo American’s business, priorities and performance within the context of the mining industry to enable effective articulation of positioning to the media.
  • Identify, build and maintain effective media relationships in South Africa, including timeous and accurate responses and where necessary, briefings.
  • Develop and implement an innovative rolling media engagement plan to best showcase Anglo American’s priorities and achievements as well as its leadership, to positively influence the Company’s reputation.
  • Identify and proactively manage matters of current and potential media interest (related primarily to corporate issues, business priorities, transformation and sustainability performance) via the development of clear, concise messaging agreed with all relevant internal parties, working jointly with relevant functional experts and across Communication teams in the Anglo American group.
  • Create content (press releases, Q&As, holding statements, announcements etc.) for Anglo American in SA and align with and influence SA business unit messaging to ensure message coherence.
  • Provide support and advice on all corporate, financial and sustainability-related matters (pertaining to positions, announcements and speeches for the region) to Anglo American leadership.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across Anglo American in SA to enable the provision of trusted reputational advice across Anglo American’s  business units in South Africa.

This would include the management of vendors assisting in the management of the crisis (advisory authority).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, media studies, or communication science
  • Microsoft office proficiency (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years relevant experience 
  • Monitoring, analysis, and reporting tools such as Meltwater, Brandwatch and others
  • Solid understanding of the South African political, economic, and socio-economic environment

As our Sampleryour responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

Performance Delivery

Sample Coordination:

  • Collect samples from open pit operations on an ad hoc basis.

  • Capture and record all relevant sampling criteria for effective sample handling and identification.
  • Crush and split samples according to specified sizes for quality assurance.
  • Ensure proper sampling from all exploration areas, including the red permit region, to support management decision-making.
  • Delineation (applicable to Production Geology):
  • Delineation of blast blocks – walking on muck piles.
  • Preparing delineation boards and poles with stickers to indicate material classes
  • Pegging of RC Drill holes in the pit.

Equipment Operation:

  • Operate the LDV for the movement of samples and materials as needed.
  • Use crushing and splitting equipment effectively to prepare ore samples for quality checks.
  • Maintain the functionality of all equipment through regular cleaning and inspection.

Sample Handling:

  • Load and unload sample boxes, ensuring accurate painting and labelling.
  • Pack sample boxes into racks according to standard procedures.

Housekeeping:

  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and contamination-free environment.
  • Ensure equipment is regularly checked and cleaned to prevent pollution.

General Assistance:

  • Provide support to the line manager and colleagues as necessary, following company policies and procedures.
  • Photography for data collection.
  • Assist with any ad-hoc tasks as required.

Job Description:

As our Miner your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Adhere to all health and safety practices and requirements.
  • Maintain good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where team members can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Active participation in VFLs, relevant Risk Assessments, and closed-out of Safety Actions.

Performance and Delivery

       Floor Stock:

  • Exercise the necessary control over activities so that they do not have adverse effects on the environment and the immediate community, for example, ensuring the right amount of charge to minimise vibrations and the impact of blasting on the community (especially fly-rock).
  • Measure drilled holes (primary and secondary blasting) according to the plan to determine the accurate quantity of explosives and accessories.
  • Obtain the precise amount of blasting accessories from the explosive magazine.
  • Charge blasting holes with the prescribed explosives to ensure the required fragmentation.
  • Inspect the blasting area after the blasting operation for misfires and unsafe conditions and declare it safe for normal operations.
  • Destroy all surplus and damaged explosives after each blasting operation according to the Mine Health & Safety Act.
  • Compile the Blasting report and forward it to the supervisor within the agreed-upon time.
  • Exercising control over explosives.

Controlled team activities:

  • Observe and enforce any codes of practice, instructions, procedures, directives, permissions, exemptions, etc., issued by the mine, the Department of Mineral Resources or any other person authorised.
  • Deliver outputs within the agreed timeframes and add value to the business.
  • Deploy sub-ordinates (direct and indirect) effectively and plan their tasks proactively to ensure smooth production operation.
  • Perform effective and efficient general office administration, such as diary management and order processing, thus contributing to achieving the team’s objectives.
  • Create SAP orders and follow-up.
  • Take minutes in sectional meetings.

Clean and environmentally friendly work area:

  • Keep the environment clean.
  • Perform cleaning activities beyond the allocated area.
  • Clean equipment with the appropriate tools.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure all blasting activities follow legislation and required processes and procedures.

Assistance:

  • Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the responsible person’s absence to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.
  • Assist the supervisor actively in continuous improvement projects.

This role is in the Mining (MIN) department on a band P3 level reporting to the Blasting Supervisor / Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical
  • Opencast Blasting Certificate (DmRE Approved)
  • Required: Valid Kumba Dover Certificate

As our General Engineering Supervisor (Support Services)your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Engineering & Maintenance Management:

  • Maintain equipment, machines, processes, and tools to ensure maximum availability and quality standards.
  • Plan, implement, and manage maintenance schedules while considering production targets to ensure minimal interruption.
  • Identify improvement opportunities, implement them where feasible, and maintain the new performance standards.
  • Ensure that all system and administrative requirements are met.
  • Hand over work orders to Artisan/Operators according to the Operating Model procedure.
  • Ensure that the Operating Model procedures are followed.

Implementing the Operating Model Daily Tasks:

  • Provide a report on daily schedule progress.
  • Report on outstanding risks and urgent work from previous days and performance.
  • Review daily output, schedule, and task compliance.
  • Communicate all management instructions to the team.
  • Ensure that all outstanding safety and plant deviations have been addressed.
  • Generate and sign off on any Routine Operating Schedule changes when required.
  • Approve or cancel all SAP notifications within 24 hours.
  • Monitor daily schedule compliance and address deviations promptly.
  • Communicate daily with subordinates about scheduled tasks and resource availability.
  • Ensure that completed work orders are returned to the Work Management Planner for closure or rescheduling/cancellation of operations.
  • Escalate and Address Risks to the Schedule per the Operating Model procedure.
  • Hold personnel accountable for following the Operating Model procedures.
  • Give feedback on execution performance and provide coaching and development to personnel.

Weekly Tasks:

  • Address compliance, reconciliation, and deviations in the weekly schedule.
  • Sign off on work orders and return them to planners for closure.
  • Hand over work orders to the supervisor using the operating model procedure.
  • Review the draft weekly schedule.
  • Attend the formal weekly schedule review meeting to finalise the execution schedule.
  • Forward all risks and deviations to the risk owner and sign off on them.
  • Monitor work order cost control in task status reports.
  • Review work order planning and input.
  • Ensure that the section safety strategy is attached to all work orders.

Monthly Tasks:

  • Ensure Pre-Planning is completed within the Operating Model Procedure.
  • Ensure all safety, health-related incidents, and outstanding actions are addressed in pre-planning.
  • Ensure all services, quality, environment, and safety instructions are documented in the preplanning.
  • Ensure all managerial instructions are documented in the pre-planning.
  • Contractors Meeting (FLM to have a meeting with contractors working in his section),
  • Support standards committee procedures and standards revision.

Review:

Job Description:

Reporting to the responsible Procurement Practitioner, the Buying Officer, as part of the DBM Supply Chain team, will be an integral support to the Technical Services Shutdown Unit, operating within the Port of Cape Town.

The main purpose of the role for the incumbent will be all purchasing requirements of the Technical Services Shutdown Unit and to support the Procurement function accordingly, from requisition to pay. This entails the purchasing of goods and/or capital equipment and services, sourcing of new vendors, benchmarking of pricing, management of commercial risk, maintaining adherence to policies and procedures, ensuring that value for money is maximized and cost savings are generated for the company.

The Duties will include the following:

  • Survey the market for best source of supply, contact potential suppliers and negotiate trade terms and discount structures and most favorable lead times
  • Evaluate quotes/tenders and make recommendations based on best commercial and technical factors
  • Responsible for technical purchasing from requisition to pay and propose master contracts where required
  • Minimise lead time variances according to customer requirements by administering the pre/post expediting process to ensure timeous delivery of goods or services
  • Suggest substitutes if items/services ordered are unavailable, or if a more economic product is technically suitable
  • Ensure strict adherence to procurement policies and procedures as well as legislation in respect of importation of goods

As our Ultra-Truck Operator your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Adhere, read, and sign all appropriate work instructions and standards.
    • Attend Safety meetings with the supervisor and team and ensure adherence to all safety protocols.
    • Effectively identify hazards and safety deviations in the area of responsibility.
    • Apply SLAM/HIRA/Mini HIRA correctly and report any safety or health-related issues.
    • Take all necessary safety precautions when working on production equipment.
    • Active participation in SLAMs, HPHs, relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Ultra-truck operating:
    • Inspect equipment according to prescribed standards at the beginning of the shift and record in the inspection list:
  • Inspect the safe working condition of the multiple safety devices, e.g., collision avoidance system, cameras, fatigue monitoring system, fire suppression system, vehicle stability, as well as the general condition and safety of the truck, tyres, etc., to prevent damage and injury to people and to minimise financial losses.
  • Check fire extinguishers and lock-out devices and report any deviations immediately to the supervisor.
  • Participate in a multi-skilled initiative per the agreed schedule to offset the support equipment.
  • Visually inspect equipment conditions at the end of the shift, report deviations to the supervisor and follow up on abnormalities.
  • Inspect loading and dumping areas visually for any deviations to ensure effective hauling, prevention of tyre damage and elimination of safety hazards.
    • Follow predetermined routes within the complex haul road network, including multiple pits with loading and dumping destinations with specific road signs, adhere to regulations, and follow prescribed hauling standards.
    • Load Haul trucks and dump ore/waste according to standards within the set cycle time.
    • Maintain truck efficiency and optimal speed control by frequently engaging with other equipment operators and road construction teams to ensure optimal cycle times.
    • Engage with the Shovel operator to ensure optimal loads; the loading scaled information and communication with the shovel operator to ensure accurate loading.
    • Manage various scenarios, i.e. hauling, tipping in adverse weather conditions, fire prevention, double-sided loading, guided spotting, and manual dispatch.
    • Responsible for safe operation and adherence to specific legislation, i.e., vehicle control, which is reportable to legislative bodies like the DMRE.
    • Ensure efficient truck dispatch over and above what the system stipulates by continuously engaging with team members, supervisors, and the dispatch control room, mainly when unplanned events occur.
    • Respond to any deviations from procedures and practices, i.e. when HPIs occur, explain practically how procedures and practices were adhered to and can be enhanced, which leads to system- and procedural improvements.
    • Report any equipment defects and malfunctions to the control room as soon as they occur and report any procedural deviations to the supervisor.
    • Participate in the investigations of vehicle-related incidents, i.e. fire incidents, vehicle interaction HPIs, property damage, etc.
    • Assist supervisor and co-workers when required or instructed.
  • Clean and Environmentally Friendly Work Area:
    • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
    • Clean equipment with the appropriate tools.
    • Participate in cleaning activities performed beyond the allocated area.
    • Clean all safety signs and equipment, ensure visibility, legibility and fit.

This role is in Mining (MIN) department on a band P4 level reporting to the Shift Supervisor
