Assembler – Production

Job Description
The Assembler is responsible for the assembly, fitting, installation, and testing of trackless mining machinery and related capital equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules. The role requires a qualified Fitter with strong mechanical assembly experience in heavy engineering, mining, or OEM manufacturing environments.

The incumbent ensures that all equipment is assembled safely, efficiently, and to the required Fermel quality and customer specifications before final inspection and dispatch.

Mechanical Assembly & Fitting

Assemble trackless mining machinery and capital equipment according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
Perform mechanical fitting of components including:
Hydraulic systems
Drivetrain components
Axles and transmissions
Structural assemblies
Pneumatic systems
Brake systems
Install and align mechanical components using precision measuring instruments.
Conduct torque settings and assembly verification checks.
Ensure correct use of tools, lifting equipment, and assembly fixtures.
Production & Manufacturing

Meet daily and weekly production targets.
Work closely with Fabrication, Quality Control, Stores, and Engineering departments to ensure smooth production flow.
Identify assembly issues and escalate technical problems to supervisors.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve assembly efficiency and reduce rework.
Quality & Compliance

Ensure assemblies comply with OEM standards, engineering specifications, and quality requirements.
Conduct self-inspections during assembly processes.
Rectify assembly defects and non-conformances identified during inspections.
Complete all production and quality documentation accurately.
Maintain adherence to ISO quality standards and production procedures.
Health & Safety

Comply with all company health and safety requirements.
Ensure safe handling of tools, machinery, and lifting equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized workstation in line with 5S principles.
Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.

Qualifications

Qualified Artisan – Fitter Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)

Experience

Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical assembly or heavy equipment manufacturing
Experience in:
Trackless Mining Machinery (TMM)
Mining equipment
Heavy engineering
OEM manufacturing environments
Experience working on capital equipment assembly is advantageous

Technical Competencies

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly instructions
Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills

CNC Programmer & Fitter

Job Description
To program, set, and operate CNC machines while performing precision fitting and assembly of mechanical components for trackless mining equipment. The role also includes supervising machine shop personnel, ensuring production efficiency, adherence to quality standards, and compliance with safety regulations.

Workshop Environment (Machines & Capability)

The incumbent will be required to operate and support the following equipment:

CNC Machines

· CNC Euma EV 1300 A – Milling Lathe

· CNC Efamatic Vertical VT 30

· CNC Mazak Quick Turn Smart 200-500

Key Responsibilities

  1. CNC Programming (Mazak & Fanuc)

· Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs using:

o Mazatrol conversational programming

o Fanuc G-code & M-code

· Program multi-axis turning and milling operations (including live tooling where applicable).

· Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.

· Perform machine setup, tool selection, offsets, and prove-out of programs.

· Conduct first-off inspections and adjust programs to meet tolerances.

· Optimize machining strategies to improve cycle times and reduce tool wear.

· Troubleshoot machining errors and implement corrective actions.

  1. Conventional Machining

· Perform precision turning and milling on conventional machines.

· Manufacture and modify components using:

o Universal milling machines

· Support urgent breakdown jobs and one-off component manufacturing.

· Ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements are met.

  1. Fitting & Assembly

o Micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, dial indicators

· Assist with rebuilds, breakdowns, and urgent production requirements.

· Maintain accurate stock levels of engineering parts, components, and consumables

· Conduct regular cycle counts and full stock takes; investigate and resolve variances

Job Description
