Relationship Manager (Mining & Natural Resources) – Readvertisement

Job Description

Sector Lead is responsible for bringing the whole bank’s offering to clients within the Resources Sector.  They are responsible for origination across multiple products. They articulate and drive the sector strategy, budgets and have overall accountability for the management, growth, and profitability of clients within the sector.

They lead the client planning within the sector, are accountable for leading a multidisciplinary team of analysts and product support to deliver on the client plans and have deep sectoral / product expertise. Manage and grow a portfolio of large, complex Resources clients through proactive, strategic relationship management.

A key aspect of the role is the leadership and project management responsibility for the transactors and specialists supporting the sector, providing sector guidance, industry knowledge, leadership oversight, and driving performance and accountability.

They have direct responsibility and accountability of the client relationships within the sector portfolio, serving as the primary point of contact for the client’s C-Suite leaders and actively driving client planning, engagement, and strategy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of large, complex Resources clients through proactive, strategic relationship management.
  • Own and execute the Resources sector strategy, aligned to Corporate & Investment Banking objectives.
  • Strong technical understanding of resources operations and value chains.
  • Serve as the primary relationship lead and trusted advisor to C‑suite and senior executives.
  • Originate and drive transactions across the full banking offering, including structured solutions and ESG‑aligned products.
  • Lead client planning, engagement, and deal strategy across multidisciplinary internal teams.
  • Drive cross‑sell and revenue growth while ensuring portfolio quality and profitability.
  • Provide sector leadership, guidance, and oversight to analysts, transactors, and product specialists.
  • Build and maintain a strong market presence within corporate Botswana and international resources networks.
  • Ensure exceptional client experience, regulatory compliance, and adherence to internal governance standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Advanced Degree in Business, Engineering, Commerce, Finance, CA or related field.
     

Experience

  • 15+ years’ experience in a similar role, scope and size of organisation.
  • Proven Track Record in client relationship management and stakeholder management.
  • Deep knowledge of the CIB sector and products including ESG and structured solutions.
  • Ability to translate sector knowledge into deals and to bring them to clients.
  • Well networked in the business network within corporate Botswana and globally.
  • Experience in dealing with C-Suite level clients.

Custody Operations Manager

Job Description

To focus on the management and controlling of all administrative tasks and risk activities for the Custody business. The Operations Manager ensures that all laid down procedures and policies are adhered to. The Manager also ensures that all settlements activities for Equities, Money Markets, Bonds, Cash and Corporate Action transactions are processed in a diligent manner

Operations Management

  • Ensure that all Policy and procedure management documents are up to date
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Custody team
  • Ensure daily reconciliations between the Custody system and Depositories are performed.
  • Act as point of contact for Audits, Risk and Compliance and Regulatory Enquiries
  • Reviews KPI’s and risks for direct reports
  • Responsible for identifying root cause, escalation, and implementing resolutions when required
  • Oversee tactical problems from a broad perspective and recommend solutions that support strategic objectives.
  • Support Head of Global Markets in driving the strategic plans and ensuring successful implementation of allocated tasks.
  • Constantly monitor all expenses and keep costs in line with budget
  • Identify a service model to support the varying needs of local and foreign clients
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships within Custody and the greater RMBN
  • Attract and retain knowledgeable individuals that will add value to the Custody business and ensure ongoing up skilling of individuals to ensure personal growth and development for the benefit of the Custody Division / FNB Zambia as a whole
  • Implement an operational structure to support the business strategy whilst ensuring optimal capability across all asset classes and clients
  • Establish and maintain critical processes, sub-processes and underlying controls needed to effectively manage operations
  • Work with the Global Product Partner (GPP) in SA to align the processing and controls with those in the RMB SA Custody business.
  • Drive efficiencies in the operating environment to ensure that Custody remains scalable
  • Employ prudent risk management practices to ensure robust processes and controls to manage the risks associated with day-to-day operational processing
  • Build a high-performance culture within the team to support the strategic initiatives to provide service excellence that will differentiate RMBN in the market
  • Ensure that adequate reports are introduced to allow proactive detection of exceptions so that these can be managed swiftly whilst seeking sustainable solutions to avoid recurrence and/or reduce risk
  • Constantly maintain an optimal level of operational efficiency through ensuring continuous oversight and management of headcount capacity, process efficiency and overall operational efficiency
  • Active participation at all industry forums with proactive feedback to clients and other stakeholders in terms of the impact of such market initiatives
  • Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching and guidance to the operational team to ensure that they understand the root cause of all problems resulting in losses or errors and that they are involved when corrective action is taken to remedy the problem.
  • Accountable and responsible for controlling operational costs associated with operational risk to avoid financial losses
  • Ensure that regular courtesy calls are held with clients to address Client issues and requirements and that proactive action is taken to address all needs or concerns
  • Actively seek to make recommendations to improve system, processes and procedures to meet client needs and to be first to market in terms of launching new products and services
  • Complete all RFP’s (request for proposal), RFI’s (requests for information) and questionnaires with precision and accuracy to ensure that all operational related information is provided
  • Provide guidance in terms of the desired dashboard management and reporting pertaining to various aspects of the operations environment to allow timely and accurate reporting at month end to executive management

Leadership

  • Actively strive to build team camaraderie within Custody
  • Keep open lines of communication with all Custody staff and provide ongoing feedback where relevant to ensure alignment between management and staff at all times
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence within the Custody team
  • Set well defined balanced scorecards for the Custody team and ensure that they are well versed with the strategic intent of the Custody business allowing them to participate in the execution of the strategic objectives

Governance

  • Ensure ongoing adherence to all legislation, regulatory requirements and risk and compliance matters to avoid control breaches or non-adherence to such.

Skills

  • Strong relationship building attributes together with strong peoples skills.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills and listening skills at appropriate levels.
  • Strong computer literacy skills in general and specifically related to Microsoft Office – word, excel and power point.
