Job Purpose
Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer:
Reporting to the Dean, the incumbent will be responsible for promoting research and scholarship in the Faculty through, for example, developing the research capacity and skills of the academic staff and students to achieve the targeted research outputs of the Faculty; achieving postgraduate enrolments and postgraduate goals, and promoting innovation and technology transfer. Creating a vibrant and conclusive research environment in the faculty.
• Overall leadership and responsibility for Faculty Research, Technology and Innovation (RTI) with oversight from the Dean, and in close liaison with the DVC: RTI and associated RTI directorates.
• Assist the Dean in compiling an overall research strategy for the faculty.
• Implement and ensure Faculty adherence to CPUT RTI policy.
• Plan and provide oversight in conjunction with department heads, to Adjunct Professors, research fellows and postdoctoral fellows.
Head of Department:
The Head of Department must take a leadership role within the department for managing, leading and providing direction to a team of academics and support staff. Management of the department as a member of the Faculty Executive. Ensure that the Department and Faculty strategic goals are realized in line with the institutional strategic goals. In addition to meeting the core academic expectations, the incumbent should manage the department effectively and efficiently, in line with the CPUT policies and procedures including but not limited to (i) academic leadership, (ii) research management; (iii) HR staff management, (iv) financial management and (v) student management. It is expected that new and creative ideas will bring innovation and further developments to the department to maintain an environment of leaders for the future.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum Requirements: Associate Professor
• A Doctorate degree in any of the specialization areas of the Faculty of Education.
• At least six (6) years’ relevant experience at university level, comprising of proven academic management experience/ research management experience.
• Outstanding record of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals, presentation of papers at professional conferences, successful supervision of Masters and Doctoral students relevant to the Education field.
• Recipient of research grants and awards.
• Experience as an external examiner/moderator.
• Proven ability to manage projects and project teams at the institution.
• Knowledge of the HEQSF processes.
Recommendations: Associate Professor
• A NRF Rating C or higher.
• High standing nationally or internationally.
• Previous experience in a similar position or at an equivalent or higher level.

• Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above which include a record of research outputs, publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentations of papers at professional conferences).
• Successful supervision of Masters and Doctoral students relevant to the Education field.

Job Purpose
The Faculty of Health & Wellness Sciences seeks to appoint a Faculty Teaching and Learning Coordinator for a period of three (3) years in which the incumbent will retain 50% of the current academic workload, and the remaining will be covered by the Coordinator allowance.

Accountable for strategic planning related to institutional rolling plan in terms of the vision and mission of the University. Ensures the success of the faculty measured in terms of survival, growth, profitability and stature by setting priorities and standards such as reliability, adaptability, quality, cost effectiveness and productivity.
- Creates organisational, faculty/functional strategies.
- Translates corporate objectives into faculty objectives.
- Establishes priorities for various dimensions and evaluates effectiveness of developed strategies.
- Exercises control in conjunction with management team of the faculty, develops aims and objectives, goals and strategies and action plans for the faculty.

5. FACULTY MANAGEMENT
Accountable for general administration, human resources, financial, marketing and the strategic planning functions of the faculty.
- Collates reports from all the faculty departments
- Compile one comprehensive report for the faculty.
- Presents reports to the Executive Management and the Senate on regular basis.
6. ADMINISTRATION
- Ultimately is responsible for the integrated faculty office and academic administration requiring records, reports, statistics, management information, research and research finance reports.
7. HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
- Monitors, directs and leads staff affairs of the faculty by means of staff support, motivating staff to achieve higher levels of performance by providing advanced studies.
- Serves on selection panels for new appointments and promotions, confirmation of permanent appointments, staff evaluations, career development, training and succession planning.
- Draws up faculty Employment Equity plans.
- Ensure implementation of EE plans.
- Ensures effective management of a diverse staff and student compliment.

8. PHYSICAL RESOURCES

9. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for the Faculty budget, all income and expenditure, for all departments and programmes falling within the Faculty to operate on business principles.
- Managing the Faculty on sound business principles, costing for a surplus, generating funds, upgrading physical resources, etc.
- Applies University guidelines for compiling the budget.
- Compiles, observes and monitors the financial budget for the Faculty.
- Reviews class fees, formulae for allocation of University’s subsidies in terms of the financial strategy for the year as well as other financial income generated.
- Controls all variances and expenses for the departments and the Faculty as measured against their budgets.
- Advises on, viability/feasibility of subjects, courses and training programmes.
- Recommends the cancellation and withdrawal of subjects, courses and training programmes that are no longer viable.
10. MARKETING
Decides on specific marketing strategies for the courses under the Faculty’s control.
- Concurrently determines the market’s needs, evaluates marketing possibilities, market share and target markets.
- Participates in developing strategies for products/services (programmes), advertising promotion, prices of “products”, marketing channels.
- Determines the best marketing mix (programmes and courses) to achieve set goals.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of existing/developed programmes in terms of changing needs and demands.
- Develops, creates awareness of values, qualification requirements, expertise required, changes in labour market, programmes, strategies, competition and regulations.
- Makes recommendations on any adjustments to programmes, analysing programmes in detail with regard to market demand, student numbers, income and expenditure.

11. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

- Interacts with all student support services in order to ensure that the necessary provision and direction are given to the student body of the faculty.

Job Purpose
This post is in line with the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), part of the Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff. The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. The new generation of academics programme (nGAP) involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics. Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens. To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following crite- ria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post:
– show interest in becoming an academic;
– be 40 years or younger;
– have a 70% pass mark for his/her Master’s degree;
– show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme; and
– be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme.
The purpose of this post is for the candidate to lecture in both undergraduate to postgraduate in the Information Technology department specializing in Multimedia Applications.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A Master’s Degree in Information Technology with focus in any of the following fields: programming, animation, game design, or interactive media with understanding of web development basics like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a pass mark of 70% or greater
- Be 40 years or younger.
- The candidate must be registered or prepared to register for a Doctoral degree.
Recommendation
- At least 1 year experience with software tools like Adobe Photoshop, Maya, 3Ds Max, or Blender for animation and 3D modeling, and programming languages like Unity or Unreal Engine.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
- Participation in all components of the nGap development programme during the first six (6) years of employment
- Teach the practical and theory subjects at undergraduate and Postgraduate levels: Digital Media in the fields of Programming, Game Design and Animation and Interactive Media
- Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the department.
- Participate in curriculum development.
- Perform student assessment.
- Participate in research activities.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
- Participate in work integrated learning and student visitations.
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry, professional bodies and local and international institutions of higher education.
- Assist with marketing and recruitment activities.
- Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
