Requirements:
1. Purpose of Role
-A Stoper fulfills a shift role in a stoping area underground to ensure a safe quality blast per day. Responsible to ensure that rules/regulations and management specifics pertaining to daily tasks are compiled with, and to deal with/report any breaching thereof. Responsible to ensure the health and safety of persons in his/her team and for persons entering his/her area of responsibility
2. Work of Role
-Before Proceeding U/G – Read Communication Book. Miner to fill in Safe Declaration Appointment (Reg. 2.10.6)
-Lamp room – Collect Lamp. GDI (Gas detecting instrument) and proceed underground
-Station / Landing – Check material / cars and services
-Safe Declaration
-Ventilation
-Face Preparation
-Temporary Support
-Permanent Support
-Marking Off
-Safety Nets
-Drilling
-Charging up
-Timing / Blasting
-End of Shift (U/G)
-Office (end of shift)
-Measuring (during shift)
-Supervision Points
-Maintaining good employee relations
3. Qualifications
-Grade 12
-Blasting Certificate
-Shift Supervisor Certificate – Advantageous
4. Experience
-Minimum of 5 year’s experience of which 2 year’s must be in a team supervisor position
5. Knowledge and Skills
-MHSA Chapter 14 (Protection in workings)
-Minerals Act Chapter 8 (Responsibility in workings)
-MHSA Chapter 9 (Occupational hygiene)
-MHSA Chapter 22 (Schedules)
-MHSA Chapter 23 (Reporting of accidents)
