Job Primary Purpose

Execute and support general farming activities and in this capacity the farm personnel is supposed to support all activities in all programs within/ out of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. The support should form part of practical experiments for the students in Agriculture and other programs serving as an open-air laboratory for disciplines in Agriculture, in particular, and all other forms in General. All these activities must be done as per course outline and practical manual which involves planting of one or more crops where students are able to follow the growth and care of the crops from planting until harvesting, which involves: irrigation, crop protection, pruning, harvesting, handling, sorting, post harvesting and marketing.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Planting of various crops as per farm mandate.
  • Provide well maintained crops at the farm division.
  • Harvesting of entire crops when ready.
  • Picking of fruits according to the required standard.
  • Perform all farm related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 8.
  • 3 years’ experience in general Farm Support Services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of field work, planting, weed control, harvesting, grading and chemical applications.

Minimum Requirements:

Senior Lecturer Lecturer
Doctoral qualification Agricultural Extension.Master qualification or progress towards a Doctoral (PhD) qualification in Agricultural Extension.
5 years of teaching experience at the University level.Some experience with the facilitation of learning, possibly as a tutor and preferably some teaching experience.
 
A strong record of research outputs including publication in accredited national and international journals and presentations at national and international conferences.Some evidence of research activities such as published papers or conference attendance with presentation, which may be associated with postgraduate research. 
 
A good record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ level with some of these students publishing their research.Participation in learned societies. 
Participation in learned societies.Some application of disciplinary/professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of external community.
