POSITION STATUS : PERMANENT

Purpose of the Job:

  • Install, upgrade, configure, administrate, maintain and deploy Oracle Databases, Oracle Application Servers and Oracle technologies. Maintain and support IT Database Infrastructure Development. Provide guidance and advice on Technical Architecture, Capacity Planning, Designing, Security Analysis, and Configuration Backup and Recovery, input to Disaster Recovery and Planning, development tools, enhancement, testing, fixes and documentations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Install, upgrade, configure, administrate, maintain and deploy Oracle Databases, Oracle Application Servers and Oracle technologies.
  • Maintains and support IT Infrastructure Production databases.
  • Provide guidance and advice on Technical Architecture, Capacity Planning, Designing, Security Analysis, and Configuration Backup and Recovery
  • Give input into Disaster Recovery and Planning, development tools, enhancement, testing, fixes and documentations.
  • Provide administration, 2nd and 3rd level support services for IT Databases Infrastructure Production.
  • Participate in IT project implementation.
  • Maintain and support IT Database Infrastructure Oracle Databases.
  • Documentation of IT Database Infrastructure development.
  • Ensure compliance with IT and company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Implement and administer large Oracle database solutions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance in a customer facing role.
  • Manage all change requests as per change management procedures.
  • Establish fit for purpose test criteria that meet business specifications.
  • Perform unit testing of Oracle Database modules
  • Update and support user acceptance test criteria.
  • Update test criteria for production acceptance.
  • Support production acceptance and implementation testing.
  • Conduct delivery assurance according to (ITIL, CoBiT, SLAs) etc.
  • Perform capacity planning, security analysis and configuration backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning. Provide advice and guidance on Technical Architecture
  • Evaluate, monitor and manage the clients’ database, application server and application performance.
  • Implement Oracle Optimal Flexible Architecture ( ASM)
  • Work alongside the customer, colleagues, partner (s) and other third party.
  • Ensure client issues are resolved, either as an individual or with assistance from other Oracle lines of business.
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of practice specific, Oracle products and services.
  • Promptly trouble shoot solve Oracle Database problems
  • Manage the performance and capacity of an Oracle Database systems environment.
  • Anticipate user requirements and identify and resolve complex problems with minimal supervision.
  • Assess internal and external operating practices, anticipate future system requirements.
  • Research and analyse emerging technologies.
  • Conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop client proposals, including estimates for costs, time and resources; prepare statistical reports: complete cost / benefit analysis and conduct business.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • National Diploma in Information Technology (NQF Level 6) or equivalent
  • Oracle Database certification
  • 3-5 Years relevant Oracle DBA experience, particularly in relation to performance tuning, security, reliability, scalability, and capacity sizing, backup and recovery.

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • Proven experience of designing, implementing and administering large Oracle database solutions, Demonstrate experience of providing expert advice and guidance in a customer facing role, Proven success of working on own initiative, Hands on experience of Oracle 9i and 10G/11G and 12C and Real Application Cluster (RAC)/Preferable to have experience in the following Oracle 10g/11g/12c Application Server, Dataguard, RMAN, OLAP services, Spatial, Single Sign-on, Identity Management, PL / SQL knowledge Strong Unix (AIX 5L, Sun Solaris) skills essential, additional MS Windows skills useful, Knowledge of technology stack underpinning the Oracle Application, i.e. workflow, J2EE, and the Forms / Reports technology will be useful, Working knowledge of EMC Networker and Data Domain, Working knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager Documentation
  • Excellent technical knowledge and aptitude in the areas of networks, hardware and software, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of planning / enhancements / installations: Quality of service on the Oracle Database environment
  • Knowledge of: IT Hosts and Database Infrastructure Architecture models, BS7799 Security standards, IT Governance, Internal business policies and procedures, IT Standards (CobiT, ITIL, etc.), PFMA, SAPO IT Architecture, Audits requirements: IT Database Infrastructure Architecture models, Database Licensing, Problem and business priorities, Change management, Customer services, Optimization of IT Oracle Database infrastructure, Planned Maintenance of IT Database Infrastructure, IT Infrastructure backup and DRP recovery, IT Database Infrastructure standards, IT Database Infrastructure policies and procedures, IT Strategy and Architecture including IT Oracle Database, Infrastructure: SAPO Business operations priorities, Testing methods and protocols, Support production acceptance and implementation testing, IT Measurement and communication: IT Standards (CobiT, etc.) and Quality Management

  • Developing and maintaining an up to date knowledge of, practice specific, Oracle products and services, Excellent trouble shooting skills, Ability to promptly solve Oracle Database problems, Managing the performance and capacity of an Oracle Database systems environment, IT Oracle database development methods, IT Oracle Database Information analysis, IT Database services and products, Ability to assess internal and external operating practices, anticipate future system requirements, Research and analyse emerging technologies, Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs, Ability to conduct and prepare feasibility studies; develop client proposals, including estimates for costs, time and resources; prepare statistical reports: complete cost/benefit analysis and conduct business. Project management tools, Thorough understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.
