Brief Description

  • The main purpose of this position is to plan, conduct and report on complex forensic audit assignments (including investigations and fraud risk assessments) to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of the control, risk management and governance processes of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).

Detailed Description

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
  • Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, checklists, models, frameworks and templates governing forensic auditing in the SARB.
  • Stay abreast of, and implement theoretical and applied developments in, the field of forensic auditing.
  • Conduct forensic audit assignments and participate in a team on more complex audit environments by conducting research and compiling thorough and reliable research reports.
  • Define the scope and objectives of forensic audit assignments and set up forensic audit programmes to address the objectives and to assist with managing projects and/or assignments to targeted milestones.
  • Effectively communicate the status of forensic audit assignments to both client management and departmental management.
  • Provide the necessary on-the-job coaching and training.
  • Execute the forensic audit programme through conducting adequacy and effectiveness assessments as well as fraud risk assessments and ad hoc investigations when required.
  • Evaluate the results of forensic audit tests and ensure that the evidence is adequate and sufficient to support the results.
  • Prepare forensic audit recommendations or parts thereof, and compile thorough and reliable audit reports.
  • Present forensic audit findings and recommendations as well as results of investigations to the audit team for review, and participate in meetings to report back on audit findings to departments.
  • Monitor departmental responses to audit recommendations and draft progress reports.
  • Brief and make presentations to departments on fraud risks well as internal control processes and status updates.

Job Requirements

  • To be considered for this position, candidates must have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree  in Forensic Auditing, Forensic Investigations or Internal Auditing; at least 5–8 years of experience in a forensic auditing environment, with a strong track record in auditing financial markets; and at least 3 years of experience in leading forensic audit assignments.
  • The following would be an added advantage:
  • being a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA);
  • being a Certified Fraud Examiner; and/or
  • being a Certified Ethics Officer.
  • Additional requirements include:
