Purpose of Job
Fulfil an operational leadership role at the Blending and Logistics environment in Applied Research & Technology (AR&T), being the facility that collects and stores relevant components from production plants and then produces high quality fuel and lubricant blends for research purposes and special blends sold to automotive companies and other OEM’s. Subsequently, the role ensures that these products are delivered around the world to where they are required. Other objectives of this role include the following:
- Translate and execute Technical Marketing Services (TMS) strategies and initiatives by ensuring the execution of research blending projects safely, on time, within budget and meeting quality requirements.
- Play a leading role to a team working in integrated operations that include plant management and logistics to ensure that AR&T and Technical Services (TS) deliver value to Sasol BU’s and ensures that their goals are achieved.
- Fulfil the SHE leading role for the blending facility through implementation of SHE focus areas and driving a zero harm objective.
- Develop and implement procedures and practices that will ensure that the blending facility unit remains available and that blending requirements per planned research project are delivered safely.
- Ensure conformance to applicable SHERQ requirements and regulations including, but not limited to, PSM implementation, equipment maintenance, HCA handling and storage, KUE and LSR management, alignment with ISO45001 and ISO9001, etc.
- Facilitate product movement locally and internationally through ensuring that all product shipment requirements are met and liaising with the relevant stakeholders as required.
Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities
Leading, planning, and managing research blending operations by effectively managing resources. Quality, cost, time, and budget target achievement.
Strategy translation.
Provide input into the overall research project planning process to ensure all key activities related to the blending plant capability and operation processes are incorporated.
Team and customer/partner service provider management. Systems development and effectiveness:
- Ensure plant safety systems and equipment adheres to design and legal requirements.
- Ensure compliance to the Process Safety Management System, Environment and Legal requirements.
- Ensure Incident reporting and investigation (Root Cause Analysis). Ensure timely results and compliance through control systems and measures.
- Make quality decisions and find solutions which will improve team results.
- Ensure Plant operations management is done according to design intend and legal requirements.
- Enforce use of PTW and ensure compliance by all.
- Managing governance and legal compliance, safety, health, and environment. Process improvement and continuous improvement and learning.
- Logistics – Export and Import of research products.
Formal Education
B Tech (Chemical/Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent
Min Experience
6 years relevant production/plant experience preferably in a liquid fuels’ environment
Relevant supervisory and SHERQ management experience
